VII.Report of the SGA Executive

Report of the Legislative Vice President, Brock McMorran

I wanted to apologize for stepping out of the last meeting. I had a job interview with a small consulting firm here in Cincinnati and turns out they hired me!

Anyway, a few quick points:

1.)I am working with Seth, Dustin, and Nate on some issues that have arisen in the Senate elections. We are being sure to communicate with everyone so that the process is as fluid as possible.

2.)On Monday, Meghan Savercool put forth a motion to approve SAC appointments. This way, Senate does not have “Chapter Seven” the motion. Also, a binder is available to review SAC applications. Senators have access to this 24 hours a day.

3.)Preview Day- March 25

4.)Destination- X – March 24

Report of the President, Ryan Alleman

Can you tell the board what you are doing with XavierFest?

Because it's during class hours, administration is concerned it might be a disturbance. Specifically Smith hall, in contact with deans.

Report of the Administrative Vice President, Lydia Gerlach

Becca, thanks for the snack. Next meeting, Whitney and Matt are bringing the snack.

Does anyone have any other questions regarding Luke’s update?

SAC award voting is today: please fill out the sheets that are being passed out to me and give them back by tomorrow. The banquet is April 1st at 5PM in the Schmidt conference room.

The focus group for Information Resources will take place on Tuesday, March 20th from 12-1PM. Meet in CLC at the connection center dest. Someone will direct you to the appropriate room. The first 8 attendees will receive $10 coffee emporium gift cards! So exciting! Please let me know if you’re interested.

VIII.Report of the SAC Chair, Morgan Zuziak

I hope you all had a great Spring Break and I hope you are all feel refreshed and excited about the rest of the semester.

First, I would like to clarify a few things about evaluations because I've heard quite a few confusion amongst you all. Make sure when you open the document you look at all of the tabs at the bottom. All you have to do is scroll across all the way to the left to see the instructions. If you have any questions before Friday at noon, when they are due, let me know!

I apologize for not reporting on this sooner but S.A.C. Chair elections are next week! Below is the process that we will follow to run the elections:

1. I will call an open executive session.

2. I will ask for nominations and those who want to run will accept their nominations.

3. All of those S.A.C. members who accepted nominations will leave the room. They will then choose a number from a bowl to determine which order they will present in.

4. Then each one will come into the meeting and give their presentation, and leave once they are done so the next nominated S.A.C. member can present.

5. All S.A.C. members who presented will then come back into the room and the S.A.C. will ask them 3 questions which must be answered by each S.A.C. member who is running for the position.

6. After all of the questions have been answered all the nominated S.A.C. members will leave the room and the S.A.C. will discuss the candidates.

7. After discussion, the candidates will come back in the room and voting will occur.

IX.Report of Advisor, Dustin Lewis

To start off, congratulations to Campus Traditions for selling out all of the Luck on the Levee tickets in just 2 Hours!! Good luck with your event this weekend. Also good luck to Late Night Programs on the Late Night Movie (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close), Muskies After Dark and on Hunger Games ticket sales!

For your Senate Minute, the Asian Pacific Society and Actuarial Club both passed this week and are now officially clubs on campus.

I wanted to share a couple of common themes from the interview process that we’ve heard from many of you as returning applicants. The first is that in SAC Meetings, we don’t pay attention. The second is that in meetings, we don’t speak up enough. These are things that many of you said about yourselves! I want to challenge all of you to change these sentiments. If you want your meetings to go more efficiently and be more productive, then pay attention! Put your phones down and stop talking to your friends next to you. If you want to speak up more in the meeting, then what are you waiting for? I just want all of you to hear these concerns that many of you shared; its your board… you make the difference and make it better!

A big thank you to Matt, Lydia and Jess as well as Meghan Savercool for being the SAC Selection Committee Members. I appreciate all of your hard work and dedication this week. It is a long process and takes a lot of time to do your best to get it right.

I’d like the Xavier Fest chairs to update you on their event at the conclusion of my report. I also need to meet with Jacquelyn, Blake and Ryan on your upcoming events.

With the dean's concern that it would interfere

Dr. Chadwick wanted academics to be involved because there could be noise that might interfere with class times.

Restaurant cards for Newport, $1 fee waivered?

X.Report of the SGA Resource Assistant, Crystal Guffey

I wanted to let you know about a couple things that are going on with me outside of SGA. For spring break I went on an AB trip to Chicago. Our group spent time with men who were recently released from prison and were in a rehabilitation program. It was an enlightening experience, I talked to men who were just recently released from prison after spending 40 years behind bars, I talked to a man who was wrongly convicted for murder and on death row, he was acquitted after 10 years. It was heart breaking and motivating at the same time. It was great opportunity and I encourage everyone in here to go on AB next year.

The week before spring break if you recall, Lauren initiated a forum with dining services. Some concerns were voiced about the vegetarian/vegan options at the Hof. Because of that Mike Ross put together a veg committee of 4 vegan staff/faculty members, me being one of them. We met for an hour with Mike Ross and Ed Devoid, Directors of Dining Services, Chef Jeff Ledford, and Clinton Kernen, Marketing Manager. They were very open and receptive to our concerns and suggestions and were sincerely interested in making vegetarian and vegans on campus feel like they can eat in the dining hall. Seeing that there are many student issues and complaints surrounding the dining hall and seeing how open the Dining Services are to meeting student’s desires, it would be a great opportunity for SGA to become a go between and to continue the work that Lauren has started. For instance, Clinton mentioned to us that when they give surveys they never break 100 responses making it hard to judge what student’s wants and needs are. Right now Clint, Mike, and Chef Jeff are working on some changes as a result of our meeting, we will meet again, and then they plan to create a student committee. If you have any suggestion for me to bring up, want to know what we talked about, or would like to be a part of this, just let me know.

Stress Out Week - Active Minds

(Initial Questions)

Since they have done this event before, it wasn't in budget initially because they weren't planning to do it?

They thought we would be doing one, did not apply for funds.

Last year transitional year for them may not have planned to do event.

(Debate and Discussion)

I think they should get the money, cool event done 2 years ago.

Do not think this is something none of our committees can take on, Active Minds is great for taking on.

Do they have a rain site?

I don't know, might try to move to GSC.

Before I think things were just canceled.

Regardless if it is a great event, it only has to meet our guidelines.

Late Night Programming, LeeAnn Scherbauer

Hey SAC! A lot is going on this week as you have heard previously in here and now. Please encourage your friends to attend MAD and relay on that we will be showing a live feed of the game! Also, encourage everyone to attend the movie on Thursday and Saturday. I'm excited for it and will be there on Thursday. I think we have achieved a good plan to pass out tickets tomorrow. We will see if it works! Late Night will have a proposal for you next week. Thanks for all your help at our upcoming events, in advance. Have a great rest of the week!

Travis Moose: Do you need additions help with ticket sales?

No, we have it covered, but I will let you know if we need help

Campus Traditions, Colleen Reynolds

Hi SAC! So like you heard from Matt, we finally have a lecture! We're all really excited about it, and I hope you all are too. If you don't know much about To Write Love On Her Arms, please check out the email Dustin sent over spring break. We're planning on kicking promo into high gear ASAP, so look out for that and start telling all of your friends to mark their calendars. If you haven't already, join the Facebook page and invite everyone you know from Xavier. And like Dustin mentioned, please please please wear these wristbands. All of SGA will be receiving one, so let's try to set a good example. In regards to Luck on the Levee, we could still use some volunteers to ride the bus on Saturday. It's only a one hour shift on the bus, you may or may not be passing out envelopes, you can bring friends with you, and we'll give you some free movie passes that you can use whenever you'd like. We sent you all an email on Sunday, so you can just respond to that or send anyone from Campus Traditions another email by Friday. We're currently getting started on Boat Dance details and hoping to plan one more event from Campus Traditions for the end of the semester. I also just want to say thanks again for all of your recent support with both Luck on the Levee and lectures. Thanks and have a great week!

What time do you need help with the buses?

All times, please let me know if you can help. It is only an hour, so please help!

Someone needs to ride the bus, did you know?

It is in our Rules of Order, so I just want to make sure our bases are covered.

Life & Culture, Analisa Condon

Sign-ups for Dance the Night Away have been passed around so thank you in advance for that! Life and Culture is on a roll and looking forward to our next four events! Thank you everyone!!

Did you know that the Vendor Committee for Xavierfest needs to meet quickly after today's meeting?

I did not know, but I do now!
