Term:Fixed Term until December 2020
Purpose of role:Assist with the research and design of the HLF development and delivery phases of the Remaking Beamish Project. Assist with the identification and recording of materials, collections and stories focusing principally on the built environment ensuring accurate representation. Assist with general administration.

Key external relationships:Visitors;Community members and groups;Project Stakeholders; External advisors/designers and engineers as required; Suppliers & contractors, museums, archive record offices, libraries and research centres
Purpose:To carry out work across the research and design aspects of the HLF development delivery phase of the Remaking Beamish Project. Assist the Design and Collections teams in working closely with Community Participation colleagues in active collecting, and identification of materials and stories focusing principally on the built environment ensuring accurate representation.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist the Design Teamby carrying out research to inform the design and delivery process and assist in developing plans that place visitor needs and engagement at their centre, with a commitment to deliver a world class-experience in a living, working, open air museum.
- Support the RB Design Team to work in collaboration with Project Officers (Community Participation) and collections teams, assisting with the sourcing, specification and identification of correct items and materials for the development, ensuring the project accurately and authentically represents everyday life within the buildings and wider landscape, and the project construction programme is achieved.
- Provide assistance with the planning, preparation and maintenance of recording systems for period building materials, procurement, audit of collections of fixtures, fittings, and other architectural materials.
- Carry out administrative duties; prepare orders, archive photographs/documents, taking meeting minutes and record budget information.
Team Duties:
- Work as part of the RB Design Team to ensure the delivery of its work, placing visitors at the centre of all activities and planning
- Be an advocate for the Museum, the HLF Project Team and its work.
- Work with colleagues to ensure consistent communication and cross area working to ensure the visitor is always placed first in any planning and activities.
- Supporting colleagues with the production of reports and presentations as required.

Able to develop curatorial research to meet the needs of audiences and local communities.
Ability to think creatively to support design projects that inspire audiences and community members to participate.
Keen interest in and knowledge of social history from the Georgian to mid-20th century periods.
Keen interest in and ability to develop knowledge of architectural history, andinteriormaterials and collections.
Basic research skills gained through study or work experience.
IT skills – able to work across Microsoft software packages.
Well organised, able to plan and deliver work within a set time frame.
Ability to work with an attention to detail and a commitment to the highest possible quality standards
Able to work within a team and take a hands-on approach, taking responsibility for delivery of specific elements through using own initiative

2. Experience &
Qualification / Relevant degree/part degree and/ or equivalent work experience in a relevant area (see below).
- Qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject; history/art history/architectural history/ heritage/museum studies/ surveying or construction.
- Work experience that has focused on at least one of the following areas: social history from the Georgian to mid-20th century/ historic buildings/ curatorial research/ heritage environment.
- Relevant training and/or experience in a curatorial/history research role
