The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) is a UK wide membership organisation for health professionals in rheumatology. The BSR works to promote excellence in the care of people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders and to support those delivering it involving patients and carers at every step. The BSR works to ensure that physicians and clinicians are educated and trained to provide high quality care. Our membership consists of clinicians looking after the whole of life, from children to adults and across the whole patient pathway.
Job summary
This position forms part of the Marketing and Education directorate who are responsible for BSR’s marketing, communications and educational activity including events. BSR works with a wide range of stakeholders and partners to develop and deliver initiatives designed to support our diverse membership.
This is a key role, working across the organisation to identify and support the delivery and development of initiatives with external partners, including a large exhibition and high value sponsorship packages at the organisation’s three day annual conference.
The post combines sales and account management, providing a central contact for external stakeholders and oversight of the society’s relationships as well as income generation.
The specific duties of the post-holder
- Partnership management
- Identify, develop and manage relationships with commercial and non-commercial partners to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship.
- Respond to project proposals from external partners, negotiating contractual agreements and developing internal plans with colleagues to deliver the projects.
- Develop and lead on the delivery of partner projects, including managing of cross-organisational project teams,
setting clear objectives, agreeing roles and responsibilities, quality expectations and budget for all partnership projects.
- Lead on the evaluation of the project to assess the success of meeting objectives and share key learnings
- Identify and develop innovative opportunities to propose to potential commercial and non-commercial partners.
- Produce and maintain policy and procedure to ensure ethical and transparent ways of working with our commercial and non-commercial partners.
- Evaluate and continuously improve satisfaction levels to ensure best value for our partners and members.
- To develop and maintain CRM system to retain an accurate and useful record of our interactions and agreements with our partners, including up to date contact details.
- Provide advice and guidance to internal and external colleagues as to how to achieve the most successful outcome through partnership opportunities.
- To review and manage all contractual agreements arising as a result of partnership activity.
- Ensure all projects are executed in line with BSR procedures and governance.
- Evaluate and continuously improve satisfaction levels to ensure best value for our partners and members.
- Sponsorship and exhibition sales and management
- To design and develop the sponsorship and exhibition opportunities for all BSR conferences including the annual conference that has targets of £1,000,000.
- Develop and implement appropriate sales and marketing plans to target and attract commercial partners to achieve target incomes.
- To stay abreast of the changes and trends in the sponsorship and exhibition at events to identify new ways of maximising income, ensuring that emerging opportunities or threats are identified and managed appropriately.
- To ensure sponsorship and exhibition agreements are formalised, signed and invoiced in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Event Managers to ensure the delivery of all event exhibition and sponsorship opportunities.
- Ensure that all sponsorship, exhibition and partnership activity is aligned with BSR strategic plan.
- Evaluate and continuously improve satisfaction levels for all sponsors and exhibitors.
- Financial management and control
- Produce accurate and timely financial reports detailing sponsorship and partnership income.
- Work with the finance team to ensure that accurate invoices are raised and paid.
- Achieve or exceed financial targets by managing the resources within agreed budget and ensuring value for money in delivering initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accurate budgets and reports for activities and initiatives.
- General
- Undertake additional duties and training as required by the Director of Marketing and Education
- Undertake administrative tasks relevant to individual role and assisting with colleagues’ administrative needs as required
- This role will require travel, overnights stays and weekend working in line with business needs.
Personal specification
The post requires a self-motivated Sponsorship and Partnership Manager educated to degree level with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with sponsors, partners and exhibition and event sales. In addition to excellent administrative skills, self-organisation, accuracy and initiative, we seek someone who is a proficient communicator and competent in the use of IT.
1. Experience / Essential/desirable- Experience and excellent knowledge of developing partnerships and sponsorship packages including for large scale events
- Experience and excellent knowledge of designing and selling exhibition space including at large events
- Experience of developing and implementing marketing and sales plans for partnership opportunities
- Excellent account management skills, with proven ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships
- Proven project management and planning experience with ability to manage a multifunctional project team to deliver successful results against objectives
- Experience in negotiating and managing contracts
- Experience in working with budgets and handling invoices
- A demonstrable background in providing excellent customer service
- Ability to demonstrate use of initiative and innovation to make positive improvements or efficiencies.
2. Education/ Knowledge
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Understanding of the needs of an organisation in the health or membership sector
