Job Purpose: Contributing to the learning teaching, research and consultancy portfolios of the Department

Responsible to:Head of Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation and Executive Dean of Facultyof Health and Life Sciences

  1. Key Responsibilities:

The appointee to the post will be expected to:

1.1Make a significant contribution to the learning and teaching portfolio in the area of Sport and/or Exercise Biomechanics/Physiology

1.2Contribute to the Sport and/or Exercise Biomechanics/Physiologyresearch activity of the Department with the publication of high quality papers and the development of research income

1.3Provide sports science support consultancy in the field of Sport and/or Exercise Biomechanics/Physiology

1.4Carry out administrative duties as required

The appointee to the post may be required to undertake any of the duties listed below, together with any other relevant duties as reasonably required by the Head of Department or Dean of Faculty, within the scope of the post.

1.5All forms of pedagogic work including classroom and laboratory teaching, tutorial work, student project supervision, preparation and support of learning materials, together with associated organisational and administrative work, cover for staff absence where necessary, preparation and marking.

1.6Student counselling and pastoral care activities

1.7Curriculum development, including the evaluation, review and improvement of existing modules and associated learning materials and module leadership

1.8Staff development, including participation in staff appraisal, in-service teaching and other training based on an assessment of individual and institutional need

1.9Research, consultancyand innovation activities which will include dissemination of research through journal articles and conferences

  1. Location:

The position is based in Northumberland Building, City Centre site, but may involve travel to other Northumbria campuses and may occasionally require national or international travel

  1. Attendance Requirements:

The post is full time, 37 hours per week,but is available on flexible working arrangements, including part time working or job share. The job requires attendance where necessary at the University’s teaching sites. A typical workload may include weekday evenings or weekend working to facilitate consultancy work and evening classes and short course delivery.
