Role Specification – Planting Promise

Job Title:Country Manager – based in Freetown, Sierra Leone

Reports to:Chief Executive (based in UK) and works closely with in-country Consultant

Terms:Volunteer role with expenses paid for a minimum of 6 to 12 months

Terms of Engagement

This is a minimum 6 to 12 months volunteer position with expenses of £800 paid per month. Accommodation in a private house in Freetown is provided and an annual return airfare, visa, vaccinations, insurance and medications are paid for.

Purpose of the Role

  1. Support the UK Chief Executive and the Consultant to Planting Promise (based in Sierra Leone) in the strategic development, planning and implementation of its education programmes and social enterprises.
  2. Manage the day-to-day running of Planting Promise's operations in Freetown, providing support to staff and developing and maintaining systems and processes

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Education Programmes
  • Assist the CEO and Consultant with the development of the education strategy
  • Assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of existing and new programmes
  • Provide on-going support to the Headteacher to ensure that school needs are prioritised and met, including resources, professional development of teachers and school running costs
  • Report regularly and proactively to the CEO on issues and opportunities and recommended action
  1. Social Enterprises
  • Assist the CEO and Consultant with the development of the social enterprise strategy
  • Assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of existing and new initiatives
  • Plan and overseethe production and sales of Welbodi Gari (a packaged snack), including product quality monitoring, stock purchasing, sales agent recruitment, distribution, marketing and reporting
  • Support production and sales staff to prioritise workload and to develop efficient and effective systems and processes in order to increase production and sales
  • Report regularly and proactively to the CEO on issues and opportunities and recommended action
  1. Administration
  • Support the accountant with the creation and production of financial reports and ensure that they are provided to the CEO and Consultant in a timely manner
  • Support the sales manager with the creation and production of sales and stock reports and ensure that they are provided to the CEO and Consultant in a timely manner
  • Ensure that the office is efficiently run and that any issues are either referred to the CEO or Consultant or dealt with in a timely manner
  • Together with the CEO and Consultant, develop key partnerships with government, educators, business, other NGOs and service providers
