POST / Senior Lecturer in Humanitarian Practice

ROLE PURPOSE/SUMMARY / This post offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the
expansion of LSTM’s Humanitarian programmes. More specifically, the
successful candidate will be initially focused on being the lead academic
on the Leadership Education Academic Partnership (LEAP), a global
initiative around the delivery of a Humanitarian Practice Programme to be
offered as a collaborative Masters programme or standalone modules
between Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), Humanitarian
Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) at the University of Manchester and
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).
The successful candidate will work with academic colleagues across
LSTM to drive forward the development and use of innovative teaching
techniques and resources aimed at creating engagement, understanding
and enthusiasm amongst students.
S/he will be able to demonstrate clear commitment to student-centred
and research-informed approaches to teaching and the ability to
enhance the learning, teaching and scholarly environment of the
School.In addition, this role will ensure alignment and integration of the
LEAP programme with other relevant LSTM Programmes. The
appointment would be suitable for someone with a strong humanitarian
background that is contextualized within a wider Global Health agenda.

ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1 / Management and leadership of LSTM’s Humanitarian Programmes / Manage and lead on the development of the humanitarian programmes and modules provided by LSTM, includingundertaking a review of the current programmes provided by the School.
Work closely with LSTM’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team to embed technological innovation in all curriculumdevelopment of new and existing programmes
Take the lead in exploring further joint initiatives in teaching in humanitarian studies within the wider context of global health.
Proactively engage with, and support activity related to the recruitment and marketing of humanitarian programmes.
2 / Management and leadership of the LEAP Programme / Play a key role in the development and delivery of teaching in LSTM with a focus on promoting student engagement with learning and enhancing student success.
Management and leadership of the LEAP to ensure commencement of programme delivery in September 2018.
Take the lead in the strategic development of the LEAP programme and modules, including distance learning components and working closely with counterparts at MSF and HCRI to deliver on this project.
Development of the LEAP programme whilst demonstrating adherence with LSTM’s quality assurance processes
2 / Teaching lead on all humanitarian taught programmes / Strategic lead to develop, convene and contribute to the teaching on humanitarian modules including, content, delivery and assessments.
Ensuring that all programme development is aligned and integrated with SLTM’s wider teaching initiatives, particularly within a global health context
Ensure all modules and programmes meet the rigorous LSTM quality and assurance standards
Compiling, reviewing and presenting all programme documentation for approval at the relevant committee structures
Supervise MSc and PhD dissertations and project assessments
3 / General / •Attend appropriate staff development activities as may be available internally and externally
Provide support for colleagues within the Education and Training
Department, covering for sickness and absence as appropriate
Carry out other related duties as may be required by the line manager

Circumstances
3 year fixed-term contract in the first instance
