Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is an environmental charity protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably, via community action, campaigning, volunteering, conservation, education and scientific research.

Team SAS are looking for a creative and organised Membership & Fundraising Co-ordinator to join our growing team to co-ordinate and implement membership communications, retention, recruitment and co-ordination. The position would suit a creative, numerate and very well organised individual who is able to work reliably often on their own initiative but wants to be part of a dynamic team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, numeracy and energy are vital. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of membership organisations and be able to successfully grow SAS’s membership base.

Membership

  • Develop & implement a membership recruitment & retention strategy to achieve agreed budgeted income.
  • Develop & implement a direct marketing plan across print and online media.
  • Develop systems to monitor the return on investment of advertisements & online media placed / booked and feed this back into the recruitment strategy.
  • Explore new techniques for recruiting members through different methods, e.g. face-to-face fundraising.
  • Co-ordinate the development of current SAS marketing communication channels, suggest ways to improve and integrate various channels to ensure more effective communications with members & supporters.
  • Organise focus groups of current & potential members to gain their feedback into existing membership offer and ways it can be improved.
  • Database management; ensure all supporter details are recorded accurately. Import & export of data for marketing purposes.
  • Budget management; monitor, evaluate and reporting of agreed income and expenditure budgets.
  • Review & improve the current membership offer to ensure it appeals to various target segments.
  • Work with third party organisations to resource offers for recruitment & retention.
  • Co-ordinate the administration of SAS membership, to ensure the correct processing of new members and membership packs and the correctrenewal of existing members within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaise with the Finance Officer to gain an overview of the direct debit system and ensure all direct debit memberships are processed accurately and within agreed timeframes.
  • Work with the volunteer co-ordinator to use volunteers to assist in duties.
  • Keeping up to date with industry standards, trends and opportunities.

  • To be aware of, and act on, relevant health and safety responsibilities as an employee of SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE and adhere to these wherever you are working.
  • To maintain confidentiality in all areas of work at SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE.
  • To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as requested by your line manager or any other member of the SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE team.
