Primary Job Purpose
To ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout NMRN’s Historic Ships.
To ensure standards and procedures (including Personal Protective Equipment) are adhered to, using cleaning materials appropriately, as instructed and economically.
To work as part of a team to ensure that the NMRN’s historic vessels are maintained and operated to a high and safe standard.

Decision making authority and freedom to act

To undertake cleaning work required, as directed by the Conservators.

Works within an established programme of work with advice and guidance being taken from colleagues where appropriate.
Reports immediately any matters of damage, decay or infestation on the ships that may arise to the Conservator.
Contributes to the delivery of the Corporate Plan.

Financial responsibility

Does not have delegated financial authority.
Responsible for controlling and looking after equipment and other assets in accordance with proper practice.

Information systems

Shares and contributes knowledge at team meetings.
Identifies risks in area of operation and follows instructions or procedures designed to mitigate those risks, including RAMS, Permits to Work and associated SHE documents.

People management

Ability to work within and effectively contribute to a team.

Communication and relationships

Works closely with colleagues at NMRN and with other colleagues in the Heritage, Resources and Visitor Experience Directorates.
Ability to positively represent the Museum to visitors and external organisations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Subject / Mandatory
Knowledge / Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements including COSHH.
Knowledge of cleaning techniques.
Experience / Experience of cleaning and working with cleaning chemicals appropriately.
Ability to demonstrate good communication, team working and people skills.
Good organisational skills, flexible approach to working routine and self-motivation.
