Role Description – Head of Marketing and Communications

Role Purpose:

The Head of Marketing and Communications will develop and implement the strategic framework for marketing activities within Cambridge Enterprise. These marketing activities include the promotion of Cambridge Enterprise and its services internally within the University and externally throughout the business community, together with the promotion of the emerging technologies that Cambridge Enterprise is working with. This includes Brand, Marketing, Communications, Digital Communications and Events functions of Cambridge Enterprise and all associated activities and outputs.
The Head of Marketing and Communications provides leadership, support and vision to a dedicated Marketing team of mixed experience levels, engendering trust and confidence to deliver success.
Main Responsibilities
Key duties and responsibilities1 / · Lead on the development and implementation of effective and creative Marketing & Communications strategies and operational plans that are progressive and in line with overall objectives of Cambridge Enterprise and current and emerging best practice.
· Articulate a vision within Cambridge Enterprise that creates excitement, enthusiasm and commitment from others.
· Establish robust measures and procedures for monitoring progress against plans and objectives.
· Build and deliver marketing campaigns mixing both traditional and new techniques ensuring key messages are consistently delivered.
· Ensure all corporate design and visual identity is effectively managed, overseeing the production of marketing material.
· Overall responsibility for the content of the website, including regular review and development.
· Evaluate legacy marketing processes and reallocate resources as appropriate.
· Work in partnership with all Heads of Teams to ensure a consistent and co-ordinated approach to all marketing, communication and engagement activity which results in delivering business needs.
· Support the team to identify new external relations initiatives which would have a positive impact on the effectiveness of Cambridge Enterprise fulfilling its mission.
· Ensure Cambridge Enterprise engages with a diverse audience, both internally within the University and externally; ensuring all target audiences are communicated with regularly, positively and consistently.
· Ensure that our reach into the University is consistent, and review this to identify ways it can be increased.
· Continue work to integrate into the 6U group (a group of leading UK Universities), establishing and working with other marketing colleagues within the 6U group to build a Technology Transfer marketing community.
· Build key strategic relationships, for example within government, BEIS, UKRI, Higher Education Funding Council for England and other stakeholders.
· Support the CEO of Cambridge Enterprise in strategic communications with Government and the media

· Oversee the time and output of the Marketing team members.
· Oversee the continued professional and career development of the marketing team. Provide regular feedback on goals and company competencies.
3 / Financial
· Responsible for operational delivery and budget control for all aspects of the marketing, communications, PR and events programmes.
· Responsible for sign off of invoices related to Marketing
· Support the Head of Marketing to develop and manage the company marketing budget.
4 / Senior Management Team
· Active participation and membership of the Cambridge Enterprise Senior Leadership team with responsibility for overall strategic direction and operations of the company, including budget and planning
· Ad hoc work within Cambridge Enterprise strategic project groups
· Work actively with the Executive team on the day to day and strategic issues related to CE
Person Specification
Essential / DesirableKnowledge, Skills and Experience / · Experience in marketing in a senior leadership role (Deputy or Head of Team).
· Experience writing and implementing marketing strategy.
· Demonstrated experience leading a full range of marketing channels, including brand strategy and building, social media and communications.
· Experience of developing and running marketing campaigns within an integrated CRM system
· Demonstrated ability in managing and motivating a multidisciplinary team.
· Ability to communicate effectively at all levels from Board level to peers and direct reports.
· Ability to convince, influence and direct where necessary. An exceptional collaborator and partner.
· Demonstrated experience as a brand guardian understanding the value derived from brand consistency/ compliance.
· Ability to effectively engage others and represent Cambridge Enterprise across a range of external organisations.
· Able to work strategically whilst being a key and supportive member of the Marketing team
· Financially astute with experience of setting, managing and monitoring budgets.
· Able to manage a heavy work programme, work to set priorities and achieve against targets.
· Ability to promote your ideas and objectives through influencing and engagement in a collegiate environment
· Ability for agile working within a strategic framework to be able to respond and capitalise on opportunities and circumstances as they arise / · Experience working within higher education sector.
· Experience working internationally and across cultures.
Qualifications / · Professional or degree level in relevant discipline. / · CIM/CIPR/CAM diploma
· Master’s degree or above in relevant discipline
