ROLE DESCRIPTION and EXPECTATIONS for VOLUNTEERS

TITLE: / Volunteer
WORKPLACE: / National (All projects)
SALARY: / Volunteers do not receive payment or other reward of any kind for their efforts although reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred as part of the voluntary work undertaken will be made in accordance with the Trust’s Volunteer Procedure.
ACCOUNTABLE TO: / Project Manager and designated Volunteer Co-ordinator
ROLE DESCRIPTION AND EXPECTATIONS: / To undertake voluntary work in a project for ex-offenders in the achievement of the Trust’s aims and objectives.

MAIN TASKS:

1.Assist in working to further the development of good staff team spirit and assisting in the support of the Project Service Users and Project Manager in providing a good standard of service.

‘Toe by Toe’ mentor- helping Service Users to read

2.Raising Concerns - To report concerns upwards through line management and, ifnecessary, to use the ‘whistle blowing’ procedures set out in the Trust’s HR Handbook

3.Familiarisation - To be familiar with Trust and project aims and objectives particularly in the following key areas:

a)Health and Safety

b)Equal Opportunities and Diversity

c)Confidentiality

d)Lone Worker policy

e)Code of Conduct

4.Training - To:

a)participate in the supervision process

b)participate in induction and training programmes

Qualifications and Training / Literacy and numeracy skills / QCF in Community Justice
Diploma in Health & Social Care (level 2-5) or a qualification that recognises the skills that you would bring to the role
Commitment to undertake relevant training
Literate to write letters and reports
Computer literate
Teaching qualification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Relates well to people of any background
Good listening and speaking skills
Able to deal discretely with delicate matters
Fully supportive of equal opportunities for all
Proven ability to work as part of a team / Experience of working with offenders or other disadvantaged groups in the criminal justice, housing, social services, not-for-profit sectors
Good understanding of the issues affecting ex-offenders
Understanding of the voluntary sector
Knowledge of hostel management issues, funding, staffing and administration
Flexibility and Mobility / Flexible attitude to rapid changes in task
Other Circumstances / Willing to undertake a DBS check which must be satisfactory to the Trust / Motivated to help others and disadvantaged groups
