What is Anatomy & Physiology?
! The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills provide the focus of this class.
! This course is designed to be an advanced study of the human body for students with an interest in pursuing a career in a health-related field. Topics include anatomical structures, physiological systems, and body functions. Students will apply the principles of physiology to human health and evaluate the applications and career implications of physiology and anatomy principles.
! Anatomy and Physiology includes hands-on laboratory investigations using appropriate scientific inquiries.
! In addition, we will deal with scientific thinking, practice and the interactions between science and society.
What are the rules?
! All Magnolia West High School rules apply at all times in this classroom; be sure and know them.
! Cell phone usage is one to be reviewed. Please do not call/text your student during class time. If it is an emergency, call the office: (281) 252-2550. Thank you for respecting class time for learning.
! All safety rules must be followed at all times, especially during any lab activities.
What are the student expectations for Mrs. Byrn’s class?
! Be respectful of the teacher, yourself, other students, and property.
! Always try your best on all assignments.
! Be positive.
! Come on time and prepared to class.
! Follow all directions.
! Ask questions and ask for help when you need it.

What materials are needed?—these will likely need to be replenished.
! 1 1” or 2” loose-leaf binder with 4 dividers (HANDOUTS/FOLDABLES, NOTES, VOCABULARY, GRADE PAGES)—Binders can stay in a bin located in my classroom, if you wish.
! 1 package of loose-leaf paper (as needed)
! Colored Pencils (12 or 24 pack)
! Black or blue pens and #2 pencils (#2 mechanical pencils are fine)
! A textbook will be provided by the school. You can check one out at the MWHS Book Room. There are also online resources available with our new textbook. Information for that will be found in CANVAS.
How are grades determined?
! Grades will be computed based on the type of work: summative and formative. The percentages are set in the district-provided gradebook program. Please see the 2017-18 MWHS Campus Grading Guidelines, where retesting policy is covered.
! There may be quizzes based on the information presented during the week. So, always be prepared.
! Unit exams will be given approximately every two or three weeks.
! Projects (usually, one per unit) count as a summative grade. Follow project guidelines in order to earn full credit.
! Warm-ups are completed and discussed at the beginning of each class—these count toward class participation grades.
! Class participation will count toward your grade. Of course, attendance can effect your grade.
! All rubrics will be attached to assignments where appropriate.
Is there make-up work?
! My class utilizes CANVAS. There is an app for that, parent & student—android and iOS. Canvas requires internet.
! Please check CANVAS daily to stay aware of upcoming exams, projects, and other important information. Handouts and presentations are uploaded as well as additional resources.
! All assignments, resources, information are posted in CANVAS. Students can access assignments anytime as long as they have internet access. Therefore, if you miss a class, check Canvas!! You will log into Canvas daily in my class but if you are absent, I expect you to check CANVAS for any notes or missed assignments.
! Alternative assignments may be assigned and completed during West Hour. If absent, work can be done either at home or at lunch—alternative assignments may have to be given for missed labs.
! Tutoring: I want ALL of my students to be successful so students can schedule morning or afternoon tutoring sessions throughout the school year. In addition, I am available during West Hour Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday!!
