Role: Business Information Analyst

Salary: c£25,524 to £29.580 per annum (pro rata where applicable)

To work with people at all levels of the organisation to understand their information needs and develop high quality, effective solutions in a timely fashion, primarily using Microsoft Reporting services 2015 and above using data from various database systems, mainly the student data system, currently based on Microsoft SQL Server 2016.

To work with the team to develop data warehouse and BI dashboard-style reporting solutions to improve performance and usability.

Development Environment

The main report development environment is Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio v5 and above for developing SQL queries, views, stored procedures and functions, and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2015 and above for developing tabular reports for deployment to the SSRS report server.

Some ad hoc reporting is done in Microsoft Excel, and occasionally, Microsoft Access.

We plan to implement data warehousing to improve report performance and allow for advanced reporting solutions – this will be implemented using Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and above.

We plan to implement a BI dashboard-style reporting facility – this is likely to be Microsoft Power BI.

Portfolio of responsibilities:

  • To collaborate with Reporting Team members and people across the college to analyse reporting requirements large and small, agree solutions, develop, test, document, and implement usable and effective reports in a timely fashion.
  • To work with Reporting Team members to help design, implement and maintain an effective data warehouse solution to improve performance and allow for advanced reporting solutions.
  • To work with Reporting Team members to implement, maintain, and develop a BI dashboard-style reporting facility to enable improved data presentation and reporting interface usability.
  • To adhere to the Reporting Team development and organisational standards.
  • To work within agreed project and development deadlines.
