What is Mathematical Applications in Agriculture?

Mathematical Applications helps prepare you for careers in agriculture, food, and natural resources,students must acquire technical knowledge in the discipline as well as apply academicskills in mathematics. Students should apply knowledge and skills related to mathematics,including algebra, geometry, and data analysis in the context of agriculture, food, andnatural resources. To prepare for success, students are afforded opportunities to reinforce,apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills related to mathematics in a variety ofcontexts.

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program

All students enrolled in an agricultural science class are required to complete a Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP). Record books will be kept and maintained on a regular basis as part of the student’s 9-weeks grade.

Grading Scale (Progress Report/Nine weeks)District Policy:

  • Daily Grades ( homework, class work, etc) = 40% (minimum of 2 per week)
  • Major Grades (tests, 9 wks exams, major labs) = 60% (minimum of 3 per 9 wks)

Homework/Late work policy:

  • Assignments will be given a due date
  • Late work will be penalized by 10 points per day late.
  • After the third day the maximum grade possibly is 70.

Class Expectations

  • Follow all school/district policies (dress code, electronics, etc)
  • Be on time, on task and prepared to learn everyday
  • Personal electronics are for EDUCATIONAL purposes only.
  • Be responsible for your own learning
  • Respect the teacher, the classroom, and other students.

Make-up work policy:

  • If a student is absent, he/she has the amount of time equal to the number of days absent to make up the work. (Ex: a student who was absent for 2 days has two days after their return to school to make up their assignment). IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO MAKE SURE THAT ASSIGNMENTS ARE OBTAINED WHEN THEY COME BACK FROM BEING OUT.
  • If absence is due to an extra curricular activity, assignment is to be obtained BEFORE absence.
  • If you are absent, please see the folder on the wall to determine any missing work.

Missed tests (class tests, 9-week tests, semester tests, major labs):

  • For 9-week tests, and class tests/quizzes/labs the student will have one week from date of return to make-up test/lab. The teacher reserves the right to offer a test that is different than the one given in class.

Student Responsibilities

  • FFA is a co-curricular organization and membership is provided for all students enrolled in an agricultural science course.
  • Each student enrolled in an Agriculture Science Course is a member of the Sheldon FFA under the Texas FFA affiliation fee that is paid by Sheldon ISD.
  • The affiliation fee pays your local, district, state and national FFA dues.
  • For the student to participate in Sheldon FFA activities they would need to purchase a FFA T-shirt that can be worn to school. The T-Shirt is $15.
  • Membership is required to compete or participate in all contests.
  • To participate in some events the students will also need to have Official Dress. Please visit to find out more about Official Dress.
  • Attendance at FFA meetings and activities may provide supplemental grades for the class.

Parent Involvement

  • All parents of FFA members are encouraged to become members of the FFA Booster Club.
  • Booster Club meetings are held directly after FFA meetings.
  • Booster Club dues are $5.

Agricultural Education includes and 3-part model which includes, classroom instruction, FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs (SAEP). We are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. We would like your student to be apart of our organization.

All students are encouraged to participate in all FFA activities and all students are required to develop an SAEP, which they will learn more about as the year progresses (this does NOT mean all students must raise an animal).
