JOB DESCRIPTION: NIGHT HOUSEKEEPER

10pm to 8am on a 4 days on 4 days off basis

Role and Responsibilities

To deliver an excellent guest experience, including the general well-being of all residents whilst staying at Brathay Hall overnight.

Key Tasks / % time spent
Guest Experience: Safety and Security
·  Acts as first line of contact for all Brathay overnight residents
·  Deals with a range of issues arising
·  Carries out regular nightly patrols and inspections of the buildings and grounds in accordance with work schedules
·  Initiates and follows Brathay’s fire and emergency procedures, escalating issues as required/according to critical incident procedures
·  Is a visible presence in order to deter security breaches
·  Provides first aid cover as and when required
·  Informs Duty Manager (DM) of incidents as appropriate
·  Reports any building/equipment issues to Facilities Manager via the Maintenance Issue Log and completes the necessary paperwork, as appropriate / 40%
Guest Experience: Cleaning
·  Carries out nightly cleaning routines of public areas, group rooms etc., as per cleaning schedules and standards and as determined by the Duty Manager
·  Prepares rooms for the start of business each day, arranging furniture etc. as requested
·  Prepares beverage stations for the following day
·  Prepares the dining area for breakfast / 40%
Guest Experience: General Customer Service
·  Answers emergency telephone calls and emergency enquiries from clients, ensuring appropriate action is taken
·  Deals with fire and security protocols, contacting emergency services in the case of fire etc. / 10%
Other venue duties
·  Assists the DM with bar duties as and when required
·  Reports and hands over to the early morning DVM / 10%
Miscellaneous
In addition to the duties listed here, the post holder is required to perform other duties, which are assigned from time to time. However, such other duties will be reasonable in relation to the individual’s skills, abilities and grade.

Skills and Experience

Essential

·  Excellent customer-facing skills, with a friendly manner and high standard of personal presentation

·  Experience of communication with a wide range of people, including different nationalities

·  Confident, and happy to work unsupervised and to use own initiative when dealing with issues arising

·  Reliable and organised: able to work to and meet nightly deadlines, and comfortable re-prioritising matters as and when they arise

·  Ability to deal with a variety of tasks, including dirty and physically demanding work (moving furniture, lifting etc.)

·  Confident telephone manner

·  Numerate and literate, with the ability to complete forms (eg, incident reports, fire equipment etc.)

·  Computer literate, and confident user of the internet and other computer applications

·  Team worker

·  Due to compliance with the Working Time Directive, the job holder must be 18 years’ old or over.

Desirable

·  Previous experience of working in a hotel/catering environment

·  Basic understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including lifting, manual handling etc.

·  Previous experience of working with room booking systems (preferably Retain)

Education and Qualifications

Essential

·  Excellent understanding of written and verbal English

·  Current First Aid qualification (minimum 16 hours), or willingness to train before commencing in the role

·  A good working knowledge of Health & Safety

Desirable

·  GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

·  Fluency in a second language
