Roddey E. Gettys, III, Clinical Scholarships Endowment Fund Eligibility and Information

The Baptist Easley Hospital Board, in conjunction with their Hospital Foundation, created an endowed scholarship fund to honor former hospital CEO Roddey E. Gettys, III. Mr. Gettys retired in February 2013 after 43 years of distinguished service to Baptist Easley Hospital. The Roddey E. Gettys, III Clinical Scholarship Endowment Fund was initiated to provide scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, and to perpetuate Gettys’ legacy of clinical excellence and patient-focused service now synonymous with Baptist Easley Hospital.

The Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation will award the Gettys Clinical Scholarship prior to the 2017-2018 academic year based on the following criteria:

Applicants must:

1.  Demonstrate a commitment to pursue a career in healthcare by completing at least one full academic year (30 semester credits) in a healthcare-related discipline.

2.  Be in good academic standing at the time of application and on track to graduate in a healthcare related discipline.

3.  Be enrolled in an Accredited or Board-Approved healthcare-related curriculum in an associates degree program, a four-year degree program, or a post-graduate program.

4.  Demonstrate a commitment to community service.

5.  Be a full-time resident of Pickens, Anderson, Greenville, or Oconee County in South Carolina.

Scholarship Facts:

1.  The scholarship is merit-based and awarded annually. Applicants may reapply on an annual basis.

2.  Employees of Baptist Easley Hospital or their children are encouraged to apply.

3.  The applicant’s education need not be provided by a South Carolina higher-education institution. However, the institution must provide an Accredited or Board Approved healthcare curriculum.

4.  Application forms may be obtained at BaptistEasley.org/Gettys.

5.  The application form must be accompanied by a typed essay, one letter of recommendation from a healthcare professor, and evidence of community service. In addition, an unofficial college/university transcript must be sent from your institution to: Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1988, Easley, SC 29641. Once the transcript is received, it will be added to your application folder. Winners may be required to provide an official transcript prior to the award.

6.  Your application will be deemed complete with an application form, typed essay, one letter of recommendation from a healthcare professor, and transcript mailed with a postmark no later than May 26, 2017 in order to receive consideration. Applicants may also choose to e-mail a PDF file of completed application, essay, transcript, and letter of recommendation from a healthcare professor to: by May 29, 2017.

7.  Following a review of complete applications, the Gettys Scholarship Selection Committee will make final selections. Winners will be notified by telephone. The recipients will be informed by June 30.

8.  The scholarship award amount may vary, and will be based on annual investment earnings. Scholarships will be paid directly to the financial aid office of the applicant’s college/university in the student’s name.

9.  Decisions made by the Roddey Gettys Scholarship Committee are final and not reviewable.
