Central Okanagan School District

The Central Okanagan is a safe community with superior educational opportunities, spectacular recreation, a mild climate, a record of excellence, and endless opportunity. We provide the best public education available. Our homestay families are caring and hospitable. We focus on the success and safety of the students in our program.

Full year academic programs begin in September. High school students may join high school at semester break in February. The program allows students to request a school but limits the number of students from each country so that there is a nice mix of cultural backgrounds. Schools are modern with state of the art facilities. We provide instruction and opportunities to meet every need. All schools provide excellent English Language Support. The ski mountain Big White and Silver Star are just an hour from town.

Kelowna

Cradled within a glorious range of mountains, is a sanctuary filled with pristine lakes, pine forests, abundant gardens, orchards and vineyards, sandy beaches, and superb amenities. Stretching from north to south for approximately 110 kms (68 miles) is beautiful Okanagan Lake. The lake sustains several diverse communities along this corridor known as the Okanagan Valley. The Okanagan Valley is located at the northern most end of the Sonora Desert and hence has a semi-arid climate, boasting long warm summers and short mild winters. The city of Kelowna, is the largest community and is located midway through the valley. It has a population of 107,000 and is the transportation, business and service hub of the valley.

Kelowna Senior Secondary

Kelowna Senior Secondary is our French Immersion School and is located in the city centre. The school has a population of 1600 students in grades 10 – 12. The school runs on a linear program. September start date only - Linear Year. The school offers unusual courses such as Robotics, American Sign Language and Philosophy. Sports include Golf, Rugby, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Football, Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, Sailing, Rowing, Skiing and Snowboarding and Tennis.

Rutland Senior Secondary

Rutland Senior Secondary is located in the city centre and has a student population of 1600 student in grades 10 – 12. This school offers a number of advanced placement course technical programs. September and February start dates. Courses include a large number of technical courses including Marine Biology, Robotics, Automotive, Radio and Television Arts and Commuter Arts and Animation. The school also has a Forestry Program and Aviation Technology Program. Sports include Golf, Rugby, Football, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball and Tennis. There is also a Hockey Skills Academy.

Mount Boucherie Secondary

This school is located on the west side of the city. It has a population of 1500 students in grades 10 – 12. It offers programs in Culinary Arts Program Skills, Hair Dressing Program, Fire Fighting Academy and the Golf Academy. It is home to the Hockey Skills academy.

George Elliot Secondary

This school is just outside of the city. It has a population of 950 students in grades 8 – 12. September and February start dates. Courses include Marine Biology, World History, Dance, Theatre Arts and Fine Arts. The school also offers a Fire Fighting course. Sports include Track and Field, Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis. There is also the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Program and the Soccer Academy.

Okanagan Mission Secondary School

Okanagan Mission Secondary School is home to approximately 1000 Grade 8 - 12 students from

Kelowna's Mission area. OKM sponsors a number of sports that continually compete at high levels locally and provincially. OKM provides innovative, flexible scheduling, and unique programs allow students to maximize personal strengths. Honours and AP programs, High Performance support for elite athletes and fine arts performers, Hockey Canada Skills Academy, Soccer Academy and the Lake O'Hara wilderness experience are among these many opportunities. The OKM music program is one of the most successful in the province.
