Descriptions of the Choices
Writing
Story- Your story must be at least 1 page long. Ideas: Story of a rock going through the rock cycle, adventures of a certain type of rock, story of someone discovering a new mineral.
News Article- Write a news article about a rock or a mineral. Your news article must be at least 2 paragraphs long, and include facts about your topic.
Greeting Card- Your greeting card must have a cover and an inside. It needs to be in color and neatly done. Ideas: card from a rock or mineral, card to a rock or mineral, card about the rock cycle
Logical/Mathematical
Game- Your game must have rules that make sense, and a way to win it. Ideas: board game, word game
Jigsaw Puzzle- Your jigsaw puzzle must be at least one full page. It must be in color and neatly done.
Word Search- Your word search must include at least 20 words in it.
Visual
Puppet show- Your puppet show must be at least 5 minutes long.
Comic Strip- Your comic strip must have at least 8 panels. It must be in color and neatly done.
Mobile- Your mobile must have 5 parts to it.
Musical
Song- Your song must include a chorus and at least one verse. The lyrics must be written down and turned into me. Ideas: change the lyrics to one of your favorite songs, make up your own song, rap, or tune
Commercial- Create a commercial to get me to buy a certain type of rock. For extra information on the uses of the rocks and minerals, check out pages 151, 156, 162, or 130-135.
Cheer and Dance- You must turn in your lyrics to the cheer to me.
Movement
Dance- Create a dance to act out the steps in the rock cycle.
Skit- Create a skit that portrays a type of rock, or a type of mineral, or the rock cycle. You must turn in the script to me.
Mime- Create a mime skit to show the steps in the rock cycle. (A mime is someone who acts with motions, and does not use sounds or words)
Naturalistic
Map with Key- Your map must be in color and done neatly. Make sure that you include a key. Ideas: Draw where in the earth you can find certain rocks, make a map of your neighborhood and show the places where you found different types of rocks.
Travel Log- A travel log is a book that shows places that you’ve been, and what you did there. Ideas: make a travel log for a rock showing the places it has been, or create a travel log for yourself showing places you’ve been and what rocks you have found there.
Experiment involving rocks- Choose an experiment that you want to do with rocks or minerals. You must turn in your problem, hypothesis, a description of an experiment you performed, and your results. (ask me for materials that you may need)
Working with others
TV game show- You must include the host, and the participants. Ideas: who wants to be a millionaire, are you smarter than a 5th grader, jeopardy, cash cab
Teach a Lesson- Teach a lesson about a type of rock or mineral, or the rock cycle. You can use the book or the internet as a resource to get information. Your lesson must be at least 5 minutes long.
Make a movie- Create a movie involving rocks, minerals, or the rock cycle. Ideas: Make a movie about the adventures of a rock, make a movie telling me about the rock cycle
Working Independently
Pamphlet- Create a pamphlet describing a type of rock or mineral. Be sure to include interesting facts about them. Your pamphlet must be in color and neatly done.
Diary- Create a diary of a rock or a mineral. Your diary must include five entries and be written neatly.
