Expressions of interest are invited from permanent employees interested in acting in the position of SEO1,Road Safety EducationOfficerCoffs Harbourwith the Educational Services team, position number 174179.This position is available from 27 January 2016to 17 July2016.

The position involves developing and implementing curriculum initiatives and programs to support the teaching of road safety education in schools K-12.

An expression of interest addressing the selection criteria, of no more than two pages in length should be submitted to Darren Neagle, Road Safety Education Coordinator by 4.00pm Monday 7 December 2015.

Statement of duties

  • Assisting government schools to implement road safety education as part of the Personal Development, health and Physical Education (PDHPE) Key Learning Area, and as part of whole school and student wellbeing initiatives.
  • Providing curriculum and policy advice on road safety education to schools and teachers.
  • Designing and implementing innovative professional learning activities to support awareness and understanding of whole school road safety education.
  • Coordinating curriculum links through collaboration with Educational Services team staff.
  • Promoting the Department of Education Road Safety Education Program to schools and teachers.
  • Monitoring the delivery of road safety education programs in schools, maintaining a database of records and reporting on professional learning activities.
  • Providing information and advice on Departmental policies and practices to community groups and agencies seeking to support road safety education in government schools.

Selection criteria

  • Teaching qualifications and recent school based experience.
  • Understanding of road safety education as part of PDHPE and current curriculum issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and deliver innovative professional learning for teachers and schools.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication and administration skills and a current driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop quality teaching and learning material incorporating ICT.
  • Proven ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of public education.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies.
