Position: Rehabilitation Registrar
Hours/Sample roster: 8:30am – 5pm
Position Descriptions:
1. Neurological Rehabilitation position
  • Neurological Rehabilitation inpatients (approx. 16 beds); responsibilities include neurological and general rehabilitation assessments at RMH City Campus.
  • Involvement in “Restorative Care Program”
  • Weekly Neuro Rehabilitation clinics – including Stroke, MS, Spina Bifida, ABI.
  • Opportunity to attend specialty clinics such as spasticity, wound management, continence, memory and falls and balance clinic.
  • Supervising a 2nd/3rd Year HMO.
  • Rostered hours may include periods of on call and after hours.
  • Completion of Faculty Research Project encouraged and fully supported.
2. Musculoskeletal - Amputee/Pain/Orthopaedic/Trauma Rehabilitation position
  • Amputee and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation inpatients (20 beds); responsibilities include amputee, orthopaedic and trauma and general rehabilitation assessments at RMH City Campus.
  • Involvement in “Restorative Care Program”
  • Weekly Amputee clinic and Chronic Pain Clinic - Occasional inpatient
  • Opportunity to attend specialty clinics e.g. Wound Management, Falls & Balance, Dementia, Continence.
  • Supervising a 2nd/3rd Year HMO.
  • Rostered hours may include periods of on call and after hours.
  • Completion of Faculty Research Project encouraged and fully supported.
3.Community Rehabilitation and Research position 1 (position filled for 2016)
  • Community-based rehabilitation ABI. Other community placements may be organized depending on trainee’s areas of interest.
  • Orthopaedic inpatients (approx. 7)
  • Supervision of intern.
  • Rehabilitation assessments at RMH city Campus
  • Ideal for rehabilitation trainees seeking a higher research degree or those who have a significant research interest.
  • A 1-year appointment preferable.
  • Rostered hours may include periods of on call and after hours.
4.Community Rehabilitation and Research position 2 (position filled for 2016)
  • Community-based rehabilitation Merri Community Health Services (respiratory). Other community placements may be organized depending on trainee’s areas of interest.
  • Rehabilitation assessments at RMH city Campus
  • Ideal for rehabilitation trainees seeking a higher research degree or those who have a significant research interest.
  • A 1-year appointment preferable.
  • Rostered hours may include periods of on call and after hours.
5. Pain Fellow position
  • This is a twelve-month position.
  • Pain (chronic) clinics twice a week, acute pain ward rounds at the city campus and once weekly interventional list
  • Targeted at those intending to sit the Pain fellowship exam towards the end of the year
  • No on call or after hours

Education Program for Rehabilitation Registrars:
  • Weekly Academic Program – Wednesday a.m. (Includes Journal Article reviews, Case Presentations).
  • Weekly combined Grand Round Meeting (National Ageing and Research, Rehabilitation, Aged Care) at RMH Royal Park Campus Tuesdays noon
  • Grand Round Meetings at RMH City Campus Thursdays noon.
  • HMO/Registrar/Intern Tutorial Sessions on Friday mornings.
  • Other teaching and Research opportunities – including presentations and participation in local and international conferences.
  • VicAFRM teaching program (Wed afternoon)
  • Accredited FIM training on campus (AROC)
Expansive library services and assistance with evidence based medicine.

Doctor On-call patterns: roughly 1 in 7, on call from home, for rehabilitation and GEM inpatients. Supported by on-site HMO overnight. Expected to do 1 weekend ward round to review newly admitted patients when on call on the weekend.
