THE ARMY INTER CORPS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - WEDNESDAY 25 MAY 2016

Introduction

1.General. The Inter Corps Athletics Championships, will be held on Wed 25 May 16 at the Tidworth Oval, Bulford Road, Tidworth, Wiltshire, SP9 7SB.

2.Aim. The aim of this instruction is to detail the administration requirements of the event.

The Competition

3.General. The aim of the Championships is to promote athletics and encourage competition between Corps. The competition will be run in accordance with England athletics rules. All events will form part of the team competition. The list of events is attached at Annex A.

4.Team Size. Each Corps may enter 1 male and 1 female team. The number of events that any one member may enter is laid down in the rules at Annex B.

5.Team Declaration Proforma. The exact composition of each team is not required until the day of the competition. Team Captains are to complete the team sheet at Annex C and submit it to the Event Secretary at the Team Captains’ brief at 0830hrs on Wed 25 May 16.

6.Entry Details. Corps wishing to enter should complete the entry form at Annex D and forward it, with appropriate entry fees to the event secretary no later than Fri 20 May 16. Cheques are to made payable to CENTRAL BANK 22 Engr Regtor, if units wish to pay by BACS bank transfer, please contact the undersigned. Entry fees are £70 per team.

7.Team Captains. Each unit is to appoint an Offr or SNCO as Team Captain. One of their responsibilities is to ensure the team declaration sheets are completed prior to the event and handed in during the Team Captains’brief; they must also ensure nominated athletes turn up to their individual events in good time.

8.Programme of Events. The programme of events is outlined at Annex E and may be subject to minor changes. Any such changes will be briefed during the team captains’ brief on Wed 25 May 16.

Conduct of the Event

9.Administration. The following administration points are to be noted.

a.Registration. Registration and Team Captains’ brief will take place at 0830hrs 25May 16 at the Tidworth Oval. The first event will start at 0900hrs.

b.Accommodation. If a team requires any accomodation then they are to inform the event organiser ASAP.

c.Feeding. Competing units are to make their own feeding arrangements for the day of the event. Refreshments will be available for competitors to purchase throughout the day. VIP feeding will be provided for lunch and afternoon tea.

d.Changing facilities. Changing rooms and toilets are available within the Tidworth Oval complex.

e.Security. A security section will be provided by 22 Engr Regt for the duration of the Championships.

f.Medical. Medical treatment will be provided by 22 Engr Regt medics at the scene. For serious injuries casualties 999 will be called.

g.Officials. SSgt Bruce (RAPTC) will co-ordinate all officials.

h.Athletics Equipment. All equipment for the championships will be provided by the Tidworth Leisure Centre less pole vaults. Individuals who are participating in this event should provide their own pole. Equipment has been checked for serviceability.

10.Events. Team Captains will be briefed at registration on the running order and any changes to the programme. Adherence to timings will be vital to the success of the day.

11.Scoring. The scoring for the event will be briefed to all Team Captains on the day.

12.Prizes. Prizes (medals) will be awarded to winners and runners up in each event; team trophies will also be awarded. The prize-giving will be conducted at lunchtime and on the conclusion of the competition. Teams are requested not to depart from the Athletics stadium until prize giving is completed.

13.Delivery Duty Holding. CO 22 Engineer Regiment will be the Delivery Duty Holder for the event.

14.Corps Representatives. Corps representatives are encouraged to support their teams, lunch and light refreshments will be provided. Team captains are requested to confirm attendance by COP Fri 20 May 16, to assist with VIP feeding planning.

Summary

INTER CORPS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 - COMPETITION RULES

Events

1.Events will be as per Annex A.

2.A winners and runners up individual medal will be awarded for each male and female athletics event. The winner shall bethe athlete achieving the fastest time or greatest distance/height in each event.

Scoring

3.The following scoring system will be used throughout the competition for all teams:

a.Track and Field. In track and field events, excluding relay events, the winner of each event, will score the same number of points as there are teams competing i.e. 6 teams, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

b.Number of Teams. Subject to the number of unit entries there may be 2 races (heats) for each track event up to and including the 800m. The results will be determined by the times from both races.

c.Relay Events. Double points will be awarded for all relay events i.e., 6 teams, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points.

d.High Jump. In the event of any tie in the High Jump the points will be shared. There will be no jump off position.

Special Competition Rules

4.The Championships will be conducted iaw current England Athletics rules, with the following provisos:

  1. No competitor is to take part in more than 2 track events and 1 field event or 2 field events and 1 track event plus 1 relay.

b.In the event of 2 or more units scoring the same number of points overall, the order of merit shall be decided by the greatest number of first places and so on until the tie is resolved.

  1. In the 5000m race all men’s teams will run in the same race.
  1. In the event of a tie in the High Jump and Pole Vault the points will be shared. There

will be no “jump off”.

  1. Field event competitors will be allowed 3 attempts only, with the exception of the High

Jump and Pole Vault in which competitors will be permitted 3 attempts at each new height when qualified so to do.

  1. Track events will take priority over Field events.

Protests

5.Any competitor who wishes to make a protest is to address their concern through their Team Captain, who will in turn represent their athletes or team to the officials. The final decision in resolving conflict will rest with the Clerk of the Course or the Event Secretary as applicable.

Trophies and Prizes

6.Individual Prizes. Individual prizes for male and female competitors will be awarded for the Winner and Runner-Up in each event. This will be decided by the best performance overall in the male and female events. Team medals will be awarded to the Winners and Runners-Up of the team categories.

7.Team Trophies. A trophy will be awarded to the Corps team, in each category scoring the greatest number of points at the meeting and competing under the terms of these rules.

8.Best Individual Athlete. Prizes for the best individual male and female athletes will be awarded for notable performances during the Championships.
