The German Design Council in Cologne awarded the Interior Innovation Award for the first time in 2003, and today it is one of the most renowned design awards in the furnishing industry. The award stands for top innovative performance in all product areas. The panel of judges, who are international representatives of the design industry, evaluated 500 submissions and selected the best products as “Interior Innovation Award Winners”. All of the prizewinning products - including Bene’s RIYA swivel chair - are being presented at the imm cologne, the world’s largest exhibition for the furniture industry, from 13 to 19 January 2014 in Cologne. The awards will be announced during the opening ceremonies of the imm cologne on 12 January 2014.

RIYA – The Charming Chair

RIYA’s friendly design with its rounded forms breaks new ground and is a marked contrast to the typical cool appearance of swivel chairs. The control elements have an appealing and clear design: they are easy to operate, with intuitive handling both from a tactile and visual point of view. A special function has been allocated to each element.

“In our work, we want to question the overwhelmingly technoid aesthetic that dominates office spaces”, explains designer Tom Lloyd. "RIYA is the result of a continuous design process.Consciously conceived with an open and pleasant design, RIYA can be used anywhere in the office: at traditional workplaces as well as in collaborative zones or informal touch-down areas. The control elements have a clear design and can be operated intuitively:RIYA meets all technical requirements, yet it is still inviting and friendly.”

In the living office, the time has passed when a chair could serve as a status symbol and a sign of hierarchical superiority. Today, social and emotional qualities are increasingly important. RIYA embodies this human touch: flexible, comfortable and versatile, RIYA makes a confident statement with its unique designlanguage.
