What are the hazards associated with the activity?
Potential hazards associaed with this service work include 1) chemical splash to service personnel, 2) chemical spill with subsequent vapor release and 3) electrical shock from work on equipment used around wet areas.
Appropriate ppe has been identified for the job. Work is performed in segregated work areas or outside making it unlikely others would be exposed to chemicals in the event of a spill. Chemicals are stored in a locked facility. Electrical equipment is UL/CSA listed. Excellent safety performance with no history of incidences.

ChemAqua

  1. The nature of the activities include providing a service and products to the customer.
  1. Service includes water analysis, changing chemical containers when empty, batch feeding chemicals as required and servicing control equipment and pumps.
  1. Service is performed once per month.
  1. Service takes about 1 hour at 3 locations.
  1. The actual work includes adding chemical to a pot feeder as required, obtaining water samples for analysis, cleaning and servicing chemical pumps and servicing control equipment.
  1. PPE includes: rubber gloves, respirator, goggles and face shield and rubber jacket.
  1. Work is performed in an area where the cooling tower is in either a separate room or in an enclosure that is open to the atmosphere. The building/enclosure is attached to the school. There is adequate ventilation at all 3 locations.
  1. Products used: Chem-Aqua 8000 MT, Chem-Aqua 15000 MT, Chem-Aqua 999, Acti-Chlor, Bactacide 45, AquaSan and MB-215.
  1. No history of any incidences.
  1. Equipment used is owned by customer and carry UL and CSA listings.
  1. Storage of chemicals is in a locked location. 2 of the cooling towers are open to the atmosphere, so work can be in a wet location. The electrical hazards are minimal, as the equipment has been provided with water shields. No reactive chemicals can come in contact with each other.
