RISE = Reading Intervention Sans Expense Students,
A one-on-one reading intervention program based on research

Form 1 - RISE Grading

Attendance – Attendance is a major part of your grade. If you are not in class, you cannot help the students.70% of your grade.

  1. 5 points will be deducted from your six-week’s gradeforeachunexcused absence.
  2. You attend all classes. Stay at Harrison only if approved by administrator or Mrs. Johnson. Example: pep rally. It is your responsibility to communicate with your assigned teacher if you will miss his/her class.
  3. Report to Ms. Johnson for a work assignment if you cannot go to RISE. Going anywhere else will be cutting or leaving school without permission, and will result in ISS and possible removal from program.

LEAVING CAMPUS: Going home, to a store or restaurant, or anywhere other than going directly to your assigned school and returning directly to campus will be a “leaving campus violation.” RISE students may be removed from the program for violations of the leaving campus policy.

Harrison Policy from student handbook: Students who leave campus must go to Attendance to check out. Students are not allowed to leave campus at any time after the initial arrival on campus without permission from Attendance. Initial arrival occurs when students either get on their bus or arrive on campus in a car. Early arrival for whatever reason constitutes being on campus and requires the student to follow early dismissal procedures. Leaving or attempting to leave campus without permission will be punishable by three days of in-school suspension on the first offense and will result in the loss of parking privileges.

Sign in/out – All students must sign in and out at both Harrison and your RISE school

  1. Failure to sign in and/out is a violation of Harrison School policy; this will result in disciplinary action.
  2. Everyone must sign in as directed at the assigned school.
  3. Travel and arrival times will be monitored.
  4. If you do not go to your RISE school due to that school’s scheduling, you must report to Ms. Johnson’a room for a work assignment. An example of this is elementary testing.
  5. You must sign out and back in. Someone else cannot do it for you; otherwise, it is the same as leaving school without permission.
  6. You may not run errands or pick up food for yourself or any other. Doing so will result in discipline and/or a removal from the program. (3rd period students do have lunch time built into their schedules.)

Grade – RISE student’s grade will be determined by attendance (70%), observation/feedback (10%) and Final Essay (20%)

Exam/Reflection–20% of you grade (final exam)(NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED): Due on/before deadline. You report to your school on our exam days for their celebrations. I am happy to edit/review your work prior to the due date.

Focus on one to three students during the semester. Your final exam will be a reflection, writing about your teaching relationship with this one student or this small group of students.

Consider:

  • Your daily activities
  • The student struggles and accomplishments
  • Particular lesson(s) or activity with which you helped the student(s)
  • How you helped facilitate the lesson or activity
  • Teacher instructional strategies: small groups, collaboration, cooperative groups, etc.
  • Your use of technology with the student(s)
  • Did the student(s) find success with the lesson? How do you know?
  • Additional comments, reflections

Please read the previous information, sign the form, and return it to RISE coordinator.
