Rikki-tiki-tavi Vocabulary Activity
To ensure that students understand the rich vocabulary used by Kipling in the classic story, Rikki-tiki-tavi, students will complete the following vocabulary activity. Please make sure you mark the due dates in your agenda.
1) Vocabulary Organizer - Classwork on 4/27. Using the text book, you will locate each vocabulary word in the margin of the story. Copy the part of speech and the definition of each word in the corresponding boxes on the organizer. Find the sentence in the story that contains the vocabulary word in bold print. (Hint: It will be on the page where you found the definition) Read the sentence so you understand how the word is used.
2) Vocabulary Study Aid – Homework 4/27 – 5/1. DUE DATE: 5/1 This activity involves creating a study aid to help you learn the definition and the part of speech for each of the eight vocabulary words. You pick the study aid you want to use and then you create it. You may pick from the following choices. If you want to create a study aid that is not shown here, please get approval first.
Vocabulary Organizer: You may use the organizer given to you in class. In addition to the information required on the form you must do the following: 1) Write a sentence using the word correctly 2) Draw and illustration of the word OR create a list of 3 synonyms and 1 antonym.
Flash Cards: Your cards must have the following information. On the front you must write the word. On the back you must have the part of speech and the definition. You must also include one of the following: a picture to illustrate the word or a sentence which uses the word correctly, or a list of 3 synonyms and 1 antonym.
Word Bubbles: You must have a bubble for the word, the part of speech, and the definition. You must have a fourth bubble that include one of the following: a picture to illustrate the word, or a sentence which uses the word correctly, or a list of 3 synonyms and 1 antonym.
Frayer Model: (Note: this model has room for the word and 4 other items. You only need to complete three) You must include the word in the center, the part of speech, and the definition. The third square must include one of the following: a picture to illustrate the word, or a sentence which uses the word correctly, or a list of 3 synonyms and 1 antonym.
Small Book: Some of you really enjoyed making the Little Dictionary of Commonly Confused Word. Here is your chance to make another small book. Each page of your book must have a word, the part of speech, and the definition. Then you can choose one of the following to complete the page: a picture to illustrate the word, or a sentence which uses the word correctly, or a list of 3 synonyms and 1 antonym.
