General Objective

The purpose of this component is to provide teachers and administrators with the strategies needed to implement “Rigor, Relevance and Relationship” in each school. Through knowledge building and application activities, administration and faculty will formulate a plan to integrate these skills into classroom instruction, thus improving those critical thinking skills needed in today’s world.

Specific Objectives

Upon completion of this component, a participant will be able to:

1.  Understand the framework of rigor, relevance and relationship.

2.  Develop and implement a training program at their school site.

3.  Adapt instructional strategies and classroom techniques for adapting curriculum to individual strengths, interests, and learning styles.

4.  Implement strategies and techniques for use of rigor, relevance and relationship to improve instruction.

5.  Adopt best practices for continuous site-based improvement.

6.  Prepare students for both the testing environment and for their own post-school roles.

7.  Develop a plan to implement rigor, relevance and relationship for their site.

Description of Activities

Activities conducted under this component will be designed to provide rigorous content training in order to accomplish the specific outlined above. They will include, but not be limited to, such things as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, problem solving sessions, and question-and-answers time. The consultant(s) will use appropriate instructional technology and materials in order to teach the content most effectively. Whenever possible, training materials for this component will be provided for the participants.

Evaluation of Participants

Achievement of the specific objectives will be determined by the use of a demonstration of skills development of a school plan and the actual demonstration of competencies in a classroom setting. .

Evaluation of Activity

An online evaluation for this activity will be conducted through the Santa Rosa Professional Growth System.
