General Membership Meeting Minutes

  2. Call to order @ 7pm
  3. President thanks to:

-President acknowledged Dell in organizing after school activities and gave

-Kim Ruthruff for getting up to date with standing rules and making sure that we are in compliance

-Thanks to Beret (and her husband) for her efforts in organizing the walkathon

  1. Approval of the standing rules. Kim Ruthruff has provided a summary of the standing rules. Robyn Wells passed the motion, Anna Fowler seconded the motion.
  2. Approval of the September meeting minutes. No additions or amendments. Minutes passed as is.
  3. Treasurer’s Report

-Kim Terhar: $40,000 deposits from the walkathon. Some is still missing. CE expenses plus instructional support. Time magazine subscriptions, handwriting without tears. Walkathon expenses. We will be over budget for the walkathon expenses however we exceeded revenue target as well.

  3. Kindergarten – tie dying
  4. 2nd grade – toy makers
  5. 1st grader – play
  6. Walkathon:$740000 walkathon funds raised including $14000 matching
  7. Art Night: Stacy - coming up. Planning is going well. 9 activities in total Art Reflections (Carole-Ann): Deadline is 11/16. Advertising the event in the Friday flyer.
  8. Islandwood:We are moving forward with plans for the bake sale on Art Night, working with vendors for swag and transportation but mostly looking to get all students to register by Thanksgiving so that we know what type of budge we are working with!!
  9. Mini grants: Anti-bullying t-shirts $500 were requested but too expensive. Looking at other possibilities. Requested conflict management posters for the classrooms - $150. Looks to get approved.
  10. Membership: 212 members. Membership cards forthcoming. Looks to be approximately 50% from the website (the rest is paper registration.
  11. Principal’s Report:

-Veterans day assemble is happening next Tuesday. Wednesday is a not school day. Come along to assembly

-In the middle of conferences.

-STEM initiative robotics club is underway

-Congratulations to the pTSA for a wonderful walkathon. Kids were engaged, it was great

-Full contingent of instructional aide positions. 6 positions are filled. (partially PTSA funded). Needs based assessment

-Working on a three year vision. Has been submitted to district for a first review. Initial review went well. Looking forward to presenting this to the school.

-Anna requested and suggested that we could share the presentation from the Walkathon. This information will be made available in the Friday Flyer

-Bennett Elementary website is new, bloglike. Information is going to be presented on the site in a more frequent manner. Calendar is available and you can subscribe to it.

-Rebuild update: process is continuing. Lead architect spoke to the community. We are now looking at the interior spaces.

-A concern was raised with respect to problems with wifi access for coding classes that run after school.

  2. Dean Drugge - 4th grade wants to thank the PTSA for their field trips. The Locks and the Fish Hatchery
  3. 5th grade: STEM applied learning in science.
  4. Choir will be singing at Veterans Day
  5. 5thgraders are helping with some of the younger grades pE classes
  6. Band will be playing at Art Night
  1. New Business - Melanie Pitsch VP of Fundraising. We are looking at a couple of new events over the year to help us meet our fundraising goals.
  2. Readathon 11-18 : promoting literacy and raising funds for the ptsa. Looking to make the event an annual event.
  3. 21st and 22nd November. If you go to a Purple Cafe on these dates then they will donate 10% to PTSA.
