Rhawnhurst NORC Volunteer Coordinator Job Description
The Rhawnhurst NORC, launched in 2005, is a joint effort of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and Catholic Health Care Services. Our mission is to helpseniors, living in the 19111, 19149 and 19152 zip codes, to continue to live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their neighborhoods.
The Rhawnhurst NORC Fix for a Friend Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Rhawnhurst NORC Project Manager, who directs and supervises the work. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, as agreed upon by Catholic Health Care Services, is the administrative entity overseeing all Rhawnhurst NORC personnel and handling the administrative responsibilities related to the project. The part time Rhawnhurst NORC Fix for a Friend Volunteer Coordinator is an employee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
This position is grant funded through March 2018 and is filled as a job share at 20 flexible hours per week. A second part time volunteer coordinator has similar responsibilities with respect to recruitment, scheduling and supervision of office and program volunteers. Coordination is required between these two positions relative to volunteer supervision coverage, also recruitment.
This job will encompass the following activities:
- Meet with individuals and groups in the community to increase awareness of the Rhawnhurst NORC mission and solicit volunteer involvement, particularly with regard to home maintenance and repair.
- Handle intake, orientation and training of new volunteers by telephone and in person.
- Assess the interests, skills and availability of volunteers in order to make successful task assignments.
- Work with the Rhawnhurst NORC Client Outreach Coordinator to match client need with volunteers whose efforts will meet the identified home maintenance and repair needs. Collaborative work between the individuals in these two positions is required to ensure the management of expectations and a positive experience for both clients and volunteers. Provide training, information, supplies and equipment to volunteers in order to facilitate their effective completion of assigned tasks.
- Maintain records of volunteer participation including but not limited to volunteer waivers to be completed and kept on file, sign in sheets to be compiled and submitted monthly to RSVP Philadelphia and data entry to the information system employed by Rhawnhurst NORC to track efforts and outcomes.
- Work in coordination with the other volunteer coordinator to maintain a database of volunteers.
- Help organize and staff community service day events.
- Actively promote the Rhawnhurst NORC throughout the neighborhood, at senior fairs, and by other means as directed by the Rhawnhurst NORC Project Manager.
- Follow up with volunteers on a routine basis
- Other activities that will be determined by Project Manager
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the geography and institutions of the Rhawnhurst area
Basic proficiency with general home maintenance and minor repair work.
- Experience in working with volunteers, aging populations and/or a social service institution.
- Strong interpersonal skills: must be friendly and enjoy talking to people of all ages and cultures, good telephone manner.
- General office experience, including experience with email, Windows operating systems, Excel and word processing
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proven ability to work well with volunteers and staff from partner organizations
Requirements:
- Must have a car (will be reimbursed for mileage) and be willing to drive
- Must be physically active and able to lift 40 pounds
