This essay is NOT based on your previous grade that you earned for essay #2. Everyone starts with a clean slate. Everyone begins with an “A”. Essay #4’s grade is centered around your ability to revise, to edit, to make changes that create a new and improved revised essay that is 100% better than before! Failure to do this will result in a poor grade; turning in the same slightly touched-upon essay will result in a poor grade.

If you choose to rework the narrative, you must do the following:

 Work Cited page (yes, you must add at least one source! = 8 points

 Add at least 2 new metaphors/ 2 similes that are NOT cliché or hyperbole. = 10 points

 You must add at least fifteen new adjectives and none of the new ones can be next to each other. (Avoid the vague ones that are too abstract to be meaningful like beautiful, nice, difficult, strong, weird, etc.) = 5 points

 Title & Heading = 6 points

 Taken some of the suggested changes by your instructor and the SSC tutor to heart. 5 points

You must add 333 NEW words min. to your essay. For those of you that turned in a really long essay, you may feel free to decide to cut some things out before adding the new. Of course, this is true for any of the narrative essays originally turned in. = 16 points

You must add a [properly documented quotation from a primary source (not dialogue, but dialogue is always good to add, too!) in MLA format. How is this possible when this is a story about you? You can add a quote about the location this takes place or find a statistic to put in the introduction or a popular saying or song lyrics or anything that is appropriate to your topic (see next point!). - 5 points

You must have a more developed, solid Introduction that will do the following: = 15 points

  • Have a hook/attention grabber – obviously, beginning with the narrative technique for a narrative essay will be ridiculous! Also, try to stay away from the weak question hook UNLESS it is really super-dooper. 5 points
  • Include some background information or a “set the scene”
  • Transition + your well-worded, strong Thesis Sentence that clearly states exactly what you are going to talk about in your narrative 5 points

Keep in mind, the suggested changes and corrections your teacher made on your rubric are not inclusive! I did not mark every single error, only some!
