Schedule for GSTEP/NFTEPSpring 2010

There are two different levels of membership in the grad student program: Core members need to attend 8 sessions, Affiliates need only to do 4. New Faculty program members need to do 8 sessions.

What counts as one of the sessions? You have a great deal of flexibility, and not all the options are known at this time. You can mix and match from the sources listed below.

  1. You can attend events listed on the Center for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching calendar: long as the events are not designated for specific groups, e.g., the ATS learning community). Please note that you are expected to RSVP to so we know how many people to expect. Please especially note two events showcasing local faculty and student work: The ATS symposium February 13, and the Teaching Learning Expo April 6.

2. A couple of different offices on campus offer technology seminars, that you could attend for no more than half of your required sessions (no more than 4 technology sessions for NFTEP and core-GSTEP, no more than 2 technology sessions for affiliate GSTEP)
The library offers sessions on a number of different technology issues, and you register through their site:
Advanced Learning Technologies will offerSOME sessions on Blackboard (the web course package) near the beginning of the semester. See

3. The Center for Writing Excellence and the Liberal Education office also offer workshops that you can take for credit toward this program, as does the CTL at Middletown. As of today, they didn’t have their schedules for the semester posted.

4. Listed on the next page are sessions on topics that are particularly of interest to this group, at times when it appears that many of you will be able to come. You are particularly encouraged to attend these, because this is an opportunity to network with other new faculty/grad students. Members of the program last year said this was one of the most valuable aspects of the program.

Please RSVP 3 days in advance to so we will know how much food to order.

5. Other opportunities may occur, and I will let you know as I become aware of them. These will be posted at the program website: or

So! you can select sessions that count toward your total from any of these sources. Please be aware that you are expected to keep a “journal” of responses to sessions that you attend. This provides documentation of your attendance, but there are other more important reasons to do it. First, it gives us feedback about what sessions you found useful or not. It is also useful to you—when you officially document your efforts to enhance your teaching, you may want to mention your participation in this program, and some notes about what you learned in the sessions may be useful to you. At the end of term, you will turn in your journal and a short summary statement of what you have learned through your experiences in the program.

Key to locations given below. All meetings in ShriverCenter are 1 hour.
