January 20th, 2010

Round table check in

ED report

·  Financial status of the MJSA. It has been necessary to make withdrawals from our reserve funds in order to cover operating costs. An adjustment was made to reduce the equipment budget by $1000.00.

·  The MJSA website has been updated with a new menu and several new pages including one under ‘Registration’ that lays out the costs included in registration fees.

·  Jason will check into a grant from government to pay for students who would help out with City League. Willard will send CAF to Jason to look into. Check into Community Initiatives Fund (CIF). Look at hiring a student through student employment services.

·  Administrative Assistant: Applications closed on Jan. 5, 2010 with 52 applicants.

Screening of resumes by Willard, Shannon, Jason and Marion took place on January 6th. Initial interviews with 5 applicants were conducted by Jason Jones and Marion Church which included assessment of computer skills. 4 candidates returned for a second, more in depth interview with Shannon Robinson, Jason and Marion. Reference checks were done, and the contract was offered to Heather McLaughlin. Start date adjusted to Feb. 16, 2010.

Local Fundraising:

·  Lengthy discussion was held on having a person dedicated to fundraising for the organization. A regular salary will be paid for the position on a trial basis for 8 months.

The board asked Jason to approach Wendy Ross-Van Breda.

·  John Eberl will continue to do research into the possibility of acquiring farmland as one way of raising funds.

Multiplex Update

·  The city of Moose Jaw has been having discussions with MJSA as well as the YMCA on management of the facility. The city is looking at various operational models. After having a discussion with Jeff Fox of the YMCA Jason will make a proposal to the City of Moose Jaw on behalf of the MJSA.

·  The anticipated rental rate will be approximately $80 per quarter field. (Tentative)
