Minutes

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 3:21p.m. byManoosh Martinez.

Reviewed minutes of last meeting:

Minutes reviewed for November 5, 2015 School Site Council meeting.Minutes were reviewed and approved by the School Site Council Members.

Program Update Reports:

LoriEshilian reviewed the following:

  1. School – Wide Title 1

The action plan is in the process of being reviewed. For the next School Site Council meeting we will be reviewing information from the action plan. The School Plan will be moving up the process to an earlier date. The school plan is also used for WASC.

  1. English Learners
  • New positions in the New Horizons Office.

-Parent liaison is waiting to be cleared.The parent liaison will be starting as a volunteer.

-Kimberly Dominguez the Bilingual Specialist is now working in the New Horizons Office. Kimberly will be working with English learners.

-Luz Santana was hired to be the College Advisor in the New Horizons Office she will be starting Thursday, January 14, 2016.

  • The new redesignation criteria will be sent to the board for the January 12, 2016 board meeting.

New Business:

Lori Eshilian reviewed the following:

1.Use of Willie Gordon Donation money

  • Willie Gordon donated another $100,000 to be spent on anything at Whittier High School.

Possible ways to spend the money-

-More technology

-Cardinal pride

-Along the cafeteria display the writing Home of the Cardinals.

-Gym logos, cardinal spirit flags in front of the gym

-Repaint cardinals on school – Use traditional cardinal on some areas of Whittier High School

-Flags, banners of hanging art, three lamppost to advertise Whittier High School

-Adriana and VivanaVigil offered a competition of a mural project for the tunnel to look at it as the history of WHS. Area will be a competition for Whittier High School students.

2.Technology purchases

  • 18 chrome book carts
  • 5 ipad carts
  • 7 laptop carts
  • Computer lab has been redone
  • Many classrooms are using technology. Thirty five classrooms could be using technology at one time.
  • 3 more chrome book carts were purchased
  • The district will be giving us a confirmation on how much more money we will be able to spend.

3.LCAP Update

LEARN ran a 21st century grant program for 5 years at Whittier High School. The grant was notrenewed. Having the Learn program here at WHS helped us grow. Asked LEARN to meet with them to prorate their services to hire 4 of their staff members. During the months of February, March, April and May we would be using their services. Would like to have LEARN organize 5 educational field trips and offer parent education. They do not need to run the program or do the data. LEARN will support the teachers and will meet with us to have a contract with them.

4.CCSS/SBAC Teacher support meeting

A Junior meeting to support SBAC was scheduled. The meeting was changed from January 12 to January 25, 2016.

5.Data Update

No data update at this time. Semester just finished no grades are in.

Announcements:

  • Superintendent will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Study session planned all day on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

The plan will be announced at the board meeting on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

  • Coffee with the principal 8:15 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2016.
  • Winter league sports starts next week.
  • PSAT results will be given to the students.
  • Plan in the Library to put flags/banners.
  • Air conditioning will be put in the gym.
  • Next meeting School Site CouncilFebruary 4, 2016.
