Review for EQAO Exam / Grade 9 Appl.
75 min / Math Learning Goals
•make connections with previous knowledge to solve new problems
•use the PHHS Mathematics Anchor Chart for solving problems
•communicate thinking and understanding with other students and the teacher using terms from the word wall and the EQAO Math Keywords
•reflect on solutions by challenging each others work / Materials
  • write’n wipe board
  • wipeable markers
  • formula sheets
  • Frayer Models
  • Notebook file

IndividualProblem Solve
Students sit in assigned groups of 3 as indicated by their avatar pictures (IWB p.1). –Each group decides on roles: 1 Reader, 1 Writer, 1 Materials Manager. All group members are expected to work on and contributeto the solution. Groups should follow their Group Rules setup earlier in the semester: What does a Good Group Look Like? What does a Good Group Sound Like?
Review the Agenda for the Day (IWB p. 2)
Individually students work on the solving the geometry question found on Maths Starter of the Day - Jan 23.
Whole GroupDiscuss
Students share their solution to the problem. Discuss the posted solution.
Assess engagement as students rate the problem on their website. / Avatar pictures can be created using the ministry licensed software Bit Strips.

Maths Starter of the Day is found on their website

Whole GroupProblem Solve
Groups work on Measurement EQAO type questions (IWB p. 3,4 ) recorder writes on Write’n Wipe board to share solutions with whole class.
Identify students to present their solutions to the whole class.
Students practice linear relationships by using Gizmos ‘Take a Walk Tell a Story activity (IWB p.5 ) Select 2 groups to create distance –time graphs at IWB and 2 groups to coach their designated ‘runner’ to simulate the graphs created. Use Gizmos to view the actual race simulation. Students compare with their models.
Select a group to work at IWB to solve a Geometry practice question (IWB p.6). Remaining students solve the problem at their desks. Facilitate discussion of solutions and encourage students to challenge. Repeat with 2 more groups at IWB.
Groups rotate through each of the posted Frayer Models: rate of change, initial value, partial variation, direct variation, linear equation, non-linear equation, correlation, Cartesian Plane. Groups discuss and post 1 entry/model (IWB p.7). Discuss posted entries with the whole group.
Individually students solve linear relations questions from ‘Debugging’ activity (IWB p.8). Discuss whole group.
Curriculum Expectations /Communication/ Observation: Listen to students’ communicate their understanding as groups present their solutions to the problems. Encourage students to challenge the answers.
Learning Skills/Teamwork/Observation: Circulate to assess teamwork while students are working. Watch for Group Dynamics. / Ministry licensed Gizmos are online simulations from Explore Learning

Scaffold by reminding students to use the terms and theorems posted on their word wall.
