diversityMissionHospitals, Asheville, NC. January 2008 – present.

OFFICER• Coordinate diversity efforts for 735-bed regional hospital system.

•Direct and oversee programs and initiatives designed to enhance relations between MissionHospitals and its underserved communities and to enhance Mission’s visibility. Interface with communities of color, differently-abled communities, and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender communities in greater Asheville area. Offer trainings and classes for such groups as county school board, local United Way leadership, and students at local high school.

  • Chair Mission’s internal Diversity Council and related committees and task forces; provides staff support as needed.
  • Wrote Diversity Curriculum for use with Mission staff and volunteers. Collaborate with outside consultant in the creation and implementation of special Leadership (managers and directors) Module on workplace diversity.
  • Plan and implement special programs and coordinate Mission participation in community events.
  • Publish articles in hospital newsletter and local newspaper on topics of diversity. Guest of local public radio broadcast.
  • Launch pilot program on cultural competency and CLAS Standards (Culturally Linguistically Appropriate Standards).
  • Liaison between employees and human resources representatives regarding issues of workplace diversity.

•Nominated for the Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award, 2009.

  • Anti-Racism Trainer for Building Bridges (as needed) in Asheville, NC 20013-2014
  • Also served as Hospital Staff Chaplain from 2008-2013
  • Currently serving the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of The Swanannoa Valley as well as The UU Fellowship of Tryon, N.C. Teaching Diversity and Anti-racism to both congregations.
