Product Preferences

The content below describes the Green Bag Co's approach to the product preferences named by the City of Seattle. We have provided a clear description for each preference below:

  1. Delivery

The Green Bag Co. will deliver 25,000 bags by the 151 of July, 2008 providing approved artwork is received by close of business June 2, 2008.

For all other orders please note that our usual lead time for orders will be 10 weeks from approval of sample. However, this lead time can be shortened by storing inventory in our warehouse based in Renton, WA. This would see product being available within 48 hours.

  1. Quality

Green Bags will last 4 to 5 years. At the end of the product lifecycle, we will have collection points amongst our retailers such as Whole Foods, PCC Markets and Target whereby we will take the old used bags back from the marketplace and recycle them into secondary products

The overall quality of our product can be tracked back to our production processes. We employ a Level 3 AU inspection process which allows for no more than a 3% failure rate, comparable to the garment industry. We also employ up to 40 full time quality control officers throughout our production facility, at each stage of the production process.

Furthermore, as is stated on our website ( we will replace or refund, for up to 12 months, any of our products that come back from the marketplace with faulty workmanship. This adds further emphasis to our pursuit to provide quality products throughout the markets we service.

  1. BagFabric Composition

T / Material breakdown details
Non-Woven Polypropylene / Bag Material
Polypropylene / Base up to 80% Recycled Content
Polyester / Care label
Cardboard / UPC tag

The Green Bag® Standard Bag is mad primarily from non-woven polypropylene (NWPP).

There has been some skepticism towards NWPP in any market we have operated in. Many believe that if it is a plastic it cannot be good for the environment. We strongly oppose this view. Based on Sierra Club findings here in the United Statesthe same amount of oil is used to produce one ofour bags as it takes to produce eight plastic bags. Based on this and the fact that one of our bagsreplaced up to four to five plastic carry bags, it means that our bag must only be used twice to better the oil consumption used in plastic bags.

Compared to other fabrics, NWPP can make the following claims:

NWPP is waterproof; Spillages which may occur are kept inside the bag, not seeping out onto the store floor which is likely to happen with cotton and calico

NWPP is non-allergenic, non-toxic and non-corrosive which is one of the many reasons it is also widely used in the medical industry with examples including surgical and medical gowns when warm food is put into cotton, calico, canvas WPP it can be conducive to microbial growth, and this is not the case with NWPP. Other material can sweat through a combination of holding moisture and remaining dampness

NWPP bags have a higher carry load than cotton, calico and canvas bags. Our NWPP has a supportive base that is rarely seen on cotton, calico and canvas bags

Canvas is currently retailed at 86 to $10 per bag. End consumers are less likely to purchase four or five canvas bags to meet all their shopping needs, in comparison to NWPP bag purchases

Spillage and moisture is easily taken care of with NWPP, with no odor remaining, unlike calico, cotton and canvas bags which must be washed thoroughly, reducing the lasting-life of the bag Cotton and calico bags do not have the durability of a NWPP bag. Cotton and calico have a much reduced lasting-life compared to the four to five years of a NWPP product

Our fabric manufacturing has been given ISO Certification. This is a very prestigious commendation particularly as our facility is based in China.

As mentioned previously at the end of the product lifecycle, we will have collection points amongst our retailers such as Whole Foods, PCC Markets and Target whereby we will take the old used bags back from the marketplace and recycle them into secondary products.

4.Bag construction

The Green Bag® is constructed in our own dedicated facility. Having been in the reusable bag market for over 8 years, the Green Bag Co. invested in its supply side operations. This sees the company with a 40% equity share in the 600 person production facility all our products are created in.

The Green Bag® Standard Bag is constructed and sewn so that there is a flat bottom similar to the flat bottom you find with a standard disposable paper shopping bag. The Standard Bag stands up on its own which allows for ease of packing. Many other materials are not sturdy enough for this to occur.

Traditionally we employ a 90gsm material weight as this adds to the quality and overall durability of the product. To ensure the stitching matches the material quality we employ a 6 stitch per inch (SPI) which again is comparable to the garment industry.

Our Standard Bag is also constructed for the weekly shopper and aims at replacing four to five plastic carry bags. This bag is constructed to support, secure and last four to five years.

We have constructed the Standard Bag to include a Poly Ethylene base (made from recycled material). This base acts as a support for heavier loads and provides extra foundation for the carrier

The handles are also designed and sewn with support and durability in mind. The handles are lengthy enough to allow for over-the-shoulder use or carried at the side and are stitched so that they run the height of the bag, to the base, for extra support for heavier loads.

  1. Size

The dimensions of the Green Bag® Standard Bag are 12.5" (W) x 13.5" (H) x 8.5" (D), However, these can be tailored as required with minimal costs associated. We would however make mention that the dimensions quoted here are in line with legal lifting capacities and carrying loads.

  1. Handles

The handles of the Green Bag® Standard Bag are on each side of the bag and can be used placed over the shoulder or carried at the side.

The handles are stitched from the base of the bag. This allows for extra support for the carrier and creates a more reliable bag that will not rip or tear with extra load.

Depending upon the size of your logo and the emphasis put on brand visibility we can stitch the handles on the inside of the bag to increase brand exposure whilst keeping the structural integrity of the bag intact. This of course is optional as the traditional approach of handles stitched on the outside can also still be employed.

The length and dimensions of the handles are as follows:

-22" from base of the bag

-10" from top of bag
1' wide

7.Colors

Customized, private-labeled Green Bags can be made to order in any PMS color. Please see some examples below:

8.Logo

The City of Seattle has requested a 1 color imprint, in white, for their first order. The Green Bag Co. has a great reputation for their imprint creativity and bag design options. One of the underlying principles of our business is: the more attractive the bag design the more likely it is to be firstly purchased and reused.

We are more than happy to use whatever designs the City of Seattle create, but we also offer our own in-house design department who are more than happy to produce some creative suggestions for your bag design at no extra expense.

9.Print ink

Primarily, the Green Bag Co. uses silk-screen printing processes. This technique sees colors being applied in subsequent order using a plastisol ink. These inks have been certified by SGS Testing Group to ensure they contain well-below the industry expected chemical content. In line with our material, the inks used in printing are non-allergenic, non-toxic and non-corrosive.

10.Machine washable

All Green Bag® products are machine washable. However, to preserve the lasting life of the product we would recommend using a damp cloth or sponge to wipe clean the inside. The material itself does not hold odor, is water resistant and so machine washing, though presenting no problem, is not necessary.
