Benediction - the Last Word

Benediction - the Last Word

DEPARTING

†Benediction - The Last Word

God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands.

†Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731

One of our elders will be available for prayer at the front

of the sanctuary immediately following the service.

The Lord’s Supper is being served this morning

HLPC welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are able to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer.

(Note: The crackers used in communion are gluten-free.)

GATHERING

Prelude

We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning.

Welcome & Announcements

Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service.

Silent Preparation for Worship

†Call to Worship - The First Word

We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name.

Minister:Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre!

I will awake the dawn!

People:We will give thanks to You, O Lord,

among the peoples;

We will sing praises to You

among the nations.

Minister:For Your steadfast love is great to the heavens,

Your faithfulness to the clouds.

People:Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!

Let Your glory be over all the earth!

(Psalm 57:8-11)

†Prayer for God’s Presence

†Hymn of Praise

“All Creatures of Our God and King” Hymn #115

†Corporate Confession of our Faith

The Apostles’ Creed has been a statement of Christian belief that Christians have united around for centuries. We join with other believers throughout the world and throughout history in declaring our faith.

REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL

Call to Confess Our Sins

Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ.

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

(Joel 2:12-13)

Silent Prayers of Confession

Hymn of Confession & Grace

“Before the Throne of God Above”

1. Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart

2. When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end to all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

3.Behold Him there the risen Lamb
My perfect spotless righteousness
The great unchangeable I am
The King of glory and of grace
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Savior and my God!
With Christ my Savior and my God!

Words of Grace

You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Joel 2:26-27, 32)

Believe the Gospel!

God’s gracious covenant promises are “yes” in Christ Jesus

so that we are forgiven and justified before the Father!

†Grace Makes Us Gracious:

Welcoming & Greeting One Another

Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7)

†Hymn of Celebration

“O Love that Will Not Let Me Go”

  1. O Love that will not let me go,

I rest my weary soul in thee;

I give thee back the life I owe,

That in thine ocean depths its flow

May richer, fuller be.

  1. O light that followest all my way,

I yield my flickering torch to thee;

My heart restores its borrowed ray,

That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day

May brighter, fairer be.

  1. O Joy that seekest me through pain,

I cannot close my heart to thee;

I trace the rainbow through the rain,

And feel the promise is not vain,

That morn shall tearless be.

  1. O Cross that liftest up my head,

I dare not ask to fly from thee;

I lay in dust life’s glory dead,

And from the ground there blossoms red

Life that shall endless be.

Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Keith Duvall

(Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE

Offering

Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (Hebrews 13:16)
