Hemispheric Workshop on Decent Work and Fair Globalization

And

Second Preparatory Meetingof the XIV Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) of the OAS

Place and Date:

Mexico City, Mexico; July 11-14, 2005:

  • July 11-12: Hemispheric Workshopon Decent Work and Fair Globalization, organized by the ILO.
  • July 13-14: SecondPreparatory Meeting of the XIV Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML), organizedby the OAS.

The ILO and the OAS are working in complete cooperation with each other for these two events.

Both of these events will take place in the Girasoles Room, located on the 6thfloor of the Hotel Camino Real,situated in Mariano Escobedo, 700 – 11590 Mexico City. Phone: (52 55) 5263-8888 / Fax: (52 55) 5531-0839.

Objectives:

Hemispheric Workshop on Decent Work and Fair Globalization:

  • To analyze,with government representatives of the Member States of the OAS and directors ofunions andemployer organizations, the theme of the generation of decent work as a bases for development policies in the countries of the hemisphere, in a globalized world.

Second Preparatory Meeting of the XIVIACML:

  • To discuss the drafts of the Declaration and Plan of Action that will be adopted in the XIV IACML, to approve the Final Reportsof the Working Groups, and to analyzethe proposals forthe creation of cooperation mechanisms and the promotion of decent work.

Participants:

  • Technical Representatives appointed by the Ministries of Labor of the 34 member States of the OAS.
  • Representatives from COSATE and CEATAL.
  • Representatives from international organizations involved in the IACML process and other special guests(Second Preparatory Meeting of the XIV IACML of the OAS)

Registration:

The participants should complete the Registration Form attached to this bulletin, and send it (in case they have not done so)toMrs. Rocío Valenciain the ILO. Her e-mail

Travel:

As stated in the invitation letter, the ILO will provide round-trip plane tickets, accommodations and meals for three nights for one representative of each government, and for the representatives appointed by unions and employer organizations.

In order to make your flight arrangements, we appreciate that you provide to us, in writing, the following information:

- passport number

- To indicate if, once the event has finished, you will go back to your country or if you wish to stay in Mexico City, at your expense (please provide us with your exact return date)

Lodging:

All the participants in the ILO Workshop, will have reservations made in their namein the Hotel Camino Real for July 10, 11 and 12, andtheir staywill be covered by the ILO. If they wish to stay in this hotel during the preparatory meeting (July 13-14), the cost of the room should be paid for by each participantdirectly. The cost of the room as negotiated by the organizers is US $135 per night. The ILO can reserve additional days, as long as each participants explicitly requests this.

The costs of lodging andmealsduring the Second Preparatory Meeting of the IACML, July 13-14, should be covered by each delegation or participant. The Secretariat of Labor and Social Provisionof Mexico will offer lunch to all the participants during the two days of the preparatory meeting.

Those participants whowill attend the Second Preparatory Meeting, but not the ILO Workshop, should directly make their hotel reservations, according to their preferences. If they wish to stay in the Hotel Camino Real, they can call(5255) 5227-7200.

Insurance:

We would appreciate it if you could take note that the ILO and the OAS are not responsible for any accident, illness, civil responsibility, temporary or permanent disability, or death that could occur during the trip or in Mexico. In case you consider it pertinent, you can get insurance for these risks.

Language:

The two meetings will have simultaneous interpretation between Spanish and English.

Currency:

The local currency of Mexico is the Mexican peso. The approximate exchange rate at the time of the meeting will be US$ 1 = $ 11.00.

Weather:

At the time of the meeting, the approximate temperature will be between 60º-78 º F (15º-25 º C).
