Spring Term 9th June 2017

Return to school

It was lovely to welcome our pupils back after the half term break. We have a busy half term ahead which we hope will be a mix of hard work and lots of fun for the pupils. We would ask for your continued support to ensure that we are able to provide the best opportunities for your children. I would like to remind you that we have “An Open Door Policy” at St Thereses and we try to resolve all issues as quickly as possible. We have added a “Parental Questionnaire” to our website in order to further obtain the views of our parents. Please take 5 minutes to fill it in.

Y6 Swimming

Y6 began swimming lessons this week which will continue until 16th June. At St Thereses we ensure that all KS2 (Juniors) classes have access to swimming lessons throughout their time with us. Y5/6 enjoy a 2 week block each year whilst Y3/4 have a week block. With our close proximity to the sea it is important that our pupils have this vital life skill and we would encourage all parents to remind their children how dangerous the sea can be.

National Tests

These took place – 3rd -10th May. Pupils from y2 –y6 were tested on Reading, Math Procedural and Math Reasoning. The results from these tests should be available to parents before Parent’s Evenings are held later in the term. I would like to remind you that these tests only give a snapshot in time of pupil’s progress. As a school we will continue to look at the whole child and encourage them to develop all their talents.

Athletics Events

As the athletic season draws upon us we have a number of events which we will be entering. There is the Catholic Athletics Competition which will be held in the Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff. Children have been selected following identification through PE sessions. The date for the event is Saturday 17th June. We will also take part in the West Glamorgan Athletics tournament which will be held on 20th June (13:15) at Swansea University.

Cricket

Y4 and Y5 are currently enjoying cricket coaching provided by Baglan Cricket Club. Unfortunately the event scheduled for Wednesday June 7th had to be cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. The tournament has been rearranged for next Thursday 15th June.

Sports Day

Sports Day will take place on Wednesday June 28th with a backup date of Friday 30th June if the weather is against us.

Foundation Phase (Infants) - 9:30- 11:00

Juniors - 1:30-3:00
