As the United States transitioned to a new century filled with challenges and possibilities, it experienced renewed ideological and cultural debates, sought to redefine its foreign policy, and adapted to economic globalization and revolutionary changes in science and technology.

Content: Summary of Reagan’s domestic and foreign policies; Bush Sr. and the end of the Cold War; Clinton as a New Democrat; technology and economic bubbles and recessions, race relations, and the role of women; Clinton’s impeachment and legacy, changing demographics and the growth of poverty; rise of the prison industrial complex and the war on drugs; 9/11 and the domestic and foreign policies that followed; and Obama: change or continuity?

Issues related to globalization, a rising feminist movement, and a confusing foreign policy. Clinton’s impeachment and its legacy.

4/26: Chapter 41 to page 993: The Election of 2000, The Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001, shift in American foreign policy. Successes and failures of George W. Bush’s first term.

4/27: The Election of 2004, Bush’s second term, and the Election of 2008.
