1/2016 – present / SMC Multimedia, a subsidiary of Shell Electric, Hong Kong
Consultant, business and technology development
2010 - 12/2015 / Quantum Wafer Inc. Guangdong, China
Founder, CEO (General Manager), Board Member
Quantum Wafer Inc. develops and produces high-quality LED wafers and chips, especially UV chips. Wafers are sold to chip makers and our chips are sold to packaging companies.
I conceived the company, obtained industrial and venture investments. We converted an old building into factory plant, including clean rooms and related facilities. We bought equipment, hired engineers, developed technologies and produced products. LED wafers and chips were marketed and sold to customers throughout China.
While we have 5 production lines (costing over 25 million US dollars), we are among the smallest in China. After the company is in full operation, the founder team handed it over to the (local) holding company to run it.
2007-2010 / Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute
(ASTRI), the largest Hong Kong government institute
Director, LED Devices, MPT Group
I lead the team to develop a novel technology for power devices and transferred the technology to EpiStar Inc. in Taiwan, then largest LED company in Asia (ex-Japan). The technology was reported on the cover page of IEEE LEOS magazine. We successfully obtained 2 government grants totaling about 3.6 million US dollars.
2001 / Founded a high-tech company (Tinggi) in Singapore with private investments
2001-2003 / Consultant to Tinggi Singapore, hired staff, developed technologies, looked for investments.
2004-2007 / Tinggi Technologies Private Limited, Singapore
CTO, Executive Director, founder
Received private and venture investments, setup the company (including a cleanroom), hired and trained staff, bought equipment, developed technologies for power LED chips, and transistors, filed patents globally, tried pilot production, etc. The company was sold to Tshinghua Tong Fang, a famous public company in China and a major commercial arm of Tsinghua University. Overall investments in Tinggi exceeded 10 million US dollars.
1998-2003 / Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Associate Professor(2002), School of Material Science and Engineering.
Teaching: G166 Engineering Physics, G167 Common Engineering Chemistry, SM103 Physics I, G269 Engineering Materials. SM465 Microlithography, SM466 Thin Film Processes, SM469 Microelectronic Process Integration
