70 Percent scholarship opportunity for college students

Dear Student Activists and Bonner Scholars,

RESULTS Educational Fund is pleased to offer a 70 percent grant-funded scholarship for up to 20 students to attend the exciting RESULTS 2011 International Conference (IC), plus receive an additional advocacy training geared towards students focusing on three of RESULTS major campaigns, TB/HIV, Child Survival, and Education for All.

As a student leader, your voice is needed to end poverty in America, and around the world. RESULTS trains citizens of all backgrounds to become powerful advocates for this goal. Advocates in over 100 chapters around the U.S. work in concert to change policies and increase funding in the areas of health, education, and economic opportunity at the national level. RESULTS chapters educate decision makers about efficient, cost-effective solutions to poverty, like providing girls a primary school education or access to $20 in tuberculosis drugs to save a life or smart tax code alterations that can be made to move American families out of poverty. Through this training, you will gain knowledge and skills in speaking powerfully, working with decision makers and the media, and organizing others who care about ending poverty. This transformative conference will be held June 18–22 at the Four Points Sheraton, in the heart of downtown Washington D.C.

2011 is the third year for RESULTS’ Campuses for Change program. RESULTS currently has 12 college chapters, and through this summer’s student program we hope to have an even greater campus presence.

This year, we are excited to extend a select number of students the opportunity to attend the IC for a fraction of the overall cost. REF will cover what is expected to be 70 percent of the overall cost for four nights’ hotel, round trip flight or train, conference registration, and food and incidentals. Each student is asked to contribute $275 as a placeholder for the program and will receive $150 for food and incidentals when they arrive on site at the conference. As part of the application process, Campus for Change applicants must make a “Commitment for Action” describing what he or she will do as an advocate against poverty within the next year.

At the RESULTS IC you will find powerful workshops and advocacy training sessions that inspire and prepare activists to take action to end poverty in the U.S. and around the globe. High profile speakers will share and train everyday citizens to become better advocates. In addition to advocacy and media training, and expert panels on poverty, students participating in RESULTS’ Campuses for Change program will take part in two additional half-day training sessions on June 19 and 22to increase your advocacy effectiveness and to prepare you with skills for instituting anti-poverty advocacy campaigns on your campus. RESULTS will help you create a plan to engage and train students on your campus using our current poverty campaigns.

Our conference agenda is being updated regularly. Be sure to look online to see who our featured speakers will be.

APPLY NOW! The application deadline is April 15 for this unique training opportunity. The application can be found on the website under “Events” and then “International Conference”.

We value your partnership in the fight to end hunger, poverty and disease and together we’ll create a world where every man, woman, and child has the opportunity to unleash their potential. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please . We look forward to seeing you there!

In Solidarity,

The RESULTS Team
