Job Title:Behaviour Support Practitioner
Grade:H4
Responsible to:Provision Lead and Deputy Provision Lead
Purpose of the Job:To work under the guidance of senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision to complement the professional work of the Provision Lead and Deputy Lead. To take responsibility for the children in order to address their individual needs and provide support to overcome barriers to learning.
Specific Responsibilities and Key Tasks
- Attend to child’s personal needs including social, health, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
- With support develop Individual Education Plan for learning and behaviour choices.
- Assist the teacher with the development of Individual plan for behaviour choices.
- Assist the teacher with the development of support/risk management plans
- Provide clerical/administrative support to the assigned teacher, eg photocopying, typing, filing and record keeping
- Assist with the planning of individual education plans (or other specific plans)
- Monitor and evaluate the child’s progress and maintain records
- Use specialist knowledge or experience to support child’s learning and development
- Liaise with parents/carers and professional staff in order to promote the learning objectives of each child
- Use initiative to develop and implement actions that will promote the integration of the child with his/her peers
- Challenge encourage and motivate the children
- Promote and reinforce self-esteem through child specific social skills sessions
- Receive and support children excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable
- Assist Senior Staff in the assessment of children to determine those in need of particular help and support. Monitor and evaluate children’s progress and maintain records
- Establish productive working relationships with the children, acting as a role model
- Promote and support the re-integration of children back into the learning environment
- Provide information and advice to enable the children to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance
- Provide feedback to the children in relation to progress, achievement and behaviour choices.
- Use own initiative to develop and implement actions that will promote the integration of the child with his/her peers
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Be aware of and support differences and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
- Contribute to and enhance the overall ethos/work/aims of the Acorn Centre
- Participate in training and other learning activities as required
- Be responsible for your own Career Professional Development
- Supervise children on visits, trips and other activities as required
- To incorporate outdoor learning on the farm with birds, animals and reptiles
Behaviour Support Practitioners in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:
- Use specialist curricular knowledge or experience to support the children’s learning
- Supervise sessions during the short term absence of senior staff

- Take part in the Acorn Centre performance management system
- Enhanced DBS Check

This position is a dual post both inreach and outreach, therefore some travel will be involved. The responsibilities of the role as detailed above apply to both roles.

The post is located at the Acorn Centre based at The Lincolnsfield Centre, Bushey Hall Drive, Bushey, Herts, WD23 2ES but may be subject to change in the future.
While carrying out outreach work the post holder must at all times adhere to the school’s policies and procedures. It is the post holder’s responsibility to make themselves aware of these.
Knowledge / Competencies/Attributes- NVQ Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy (or equivalent)
- Working towards National Occupational Standards
- Good Knowledge of ICT (inc tools for planning, research, analysis and admin) and hardware (inc digital cameras, computer, email and internet)
