Purpose:

To develop, implement and manage a community fundraising strategy aimed at raising funds and achieving agreed targets within your designated geographical region.

Engage with all aspects of the community (individuals, clubs and associations, work places, places of worship, fundraising committees etc.) and be instrumental in recruiting, stewarding and retaining dedicated and effective volunteer fundraisers.

To act as first point of contact for Beating Bowel Cancer within the designated geographical region giving first class supporter care and being an ambassador for the charity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Planning & delivery

  • Work collaboratively with the Community Fundraising Manager to achieve targets and objectives within the designated geographical region.
  • Be the main contact for Beating Bowel Cancer for all community fundraising matters within the designated geographical region.
  • Devise a fundraising strategy to maximise community fundraising income (including in memory giving) within the region.
  • Implement agreed fundraising strategy, targeting all fundraising prospects in a supporter care ledand professional manner.
  • Utilise contacts made through our website, twitter, Facebook and other digital media to garner long term fundraising support for Beating Bowel Cancer.
  • Deliver clear and professional communication to ensure a high standard of supporter care is delivered to all volunteer fundraisers and supporters.
  • Regularly use all elements of Beating Bowel Cancer’s digital media (twitter, Facebook, etc.) to keep up to speed and engage with volunteer fundraisers.
  • Attend meetings, give presentations and write fundraising proposals as required by the fundraising strategy.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all Beating Bowel Cancer departments to ensure coordinated working practices.
  • Actively promote and represent Beating Bowel Cancer and the charity’s key messages, to gain positive attention and media coverage within the region.

  • Liaise with Community Fundraising Manager to ensure all activities comply with legal requirements and within Beating Bowel Cancer’s policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the fundraising team to highlight major donor and trust prospects, legacy prospects, possible event participants and corporate opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to highlight patients, family and their friends who need our advice and support.
  • Be responsible for training and managing volunteers and ensure that they comply with the volunteer code of conduct as set out by Beating Bowel Cancer.

Managing systems and reporting

  • Maintain up to date and accurate records on Donor Strategy database and record all significant communication you have with supporters or volunteer fundraisers.
  • Use Donor Strategy to produce reports on community fundraising activity and income, in line procedures set out by the Database Coordinator.
  • Present regular activity and income reports to the Community Fundraising Manager.
  • Develop a clear and professional communication procedure to support the stewardship of all volunteer fundraisers and supporters.
  • Develop a robust system to manage all community fundraising enquiries efficiently and effectively.

Other

  • Have a thorough understanding of, and ensure compliance with, all legal and contractual requirements associated with community fundraising including risk assessments, cash handling, volunteer management practices and street collection permits etc.
  • Keep up to speed with current trends within UK fundraising and the charity sector through reading publications, websites and attending conferences as agreed by the Community Fundraising Manager.
  • Carry out as required any other tasks within the scope of the role to meet the needs of the charity, as directed by the Community Fundraising Manager.
  • The ability to travel in order to meet the requirements of the role.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings if required.
  • A passion or affiliation with bowel cancer and a desire to make a difference.

Benefit / Description
Office Hours / 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday; 9am to 4pm Friday.
Annual leave / 25 days. Pro rata for part time staff.
Additional annual leave entitlement for long service / After 2 years of service (including probation) an extra 1 day of annual leave entitlement up to a maximum of 5 days. Pro rata for part time staff.
