JOB TITLE:Oncology Physiotherapist

DEPARTMENT:Cancer centre London / Physiotherapy

RESPONSIBLE TO:Carol Hurd / Oncology Physiotherapy Team Leader

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

(Overall Objectives)

  • To support the Oncology physiotherapy team lead in providing an outpatient oncology physiotherapyservice to patients at the cancer centre.
  • To support the staff on the third floor in providing an inpatient physiotherapy service to patients.
  • To support the Oncology physiotherapy team lead to provide a physiotherapy service for those patients who undergo mastectomy.
  • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice topatients.
  • To support the development of theoncology physiotherapy service.
  • To participate in clinical audit.
  • To carry out all duties in accordance with Customer Care Standards

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Clinical

  • To undertake specialised assessment and treatment of patients as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice to determine and manage an appropriate treatment plan.
  • To provide cover for the out patient oncology physiotherapy service when the oncology team leader and the inpatient service when the in patient physiotherapist are absent
  • To provide support and advice to other members of the physiotherapy team with regards to the assessment and treatment of patients with oncologyconditions.
  • To maintain a high standard of clinical records and provide written progress and discharge reports for medical colleagues, as required.
  • To liaise with other Departments to ensure a unified approach to patient care.
  • To use specialist knowledge to refer to other health disciplines as appropriate.
  • To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • To participate in the in-service teaching regimes and staff development programmes.
  • To maintain a CPD portfolio reflecting your personal professional development.
  • To participate in department in-house training/teaching sessions for CPD.
  • To support the Managers in marketing the physiotherapy service and upholding clinical standards.
  • To process all reported accidents, complaints and equipment malfunctions in the absence of the Team leader and in accordance with hospital policy.

Service Development

  • To individually market and promote the Department within the Hospital and the local community
  • To participate in any public/PR events promoting the Department.

General

  • To report any equipment malfunctions and identified health and safety hazards to the manager/health and safety manager in accordance with hospital policy.
  • To understand and abide by the Department’s philosophy, policies, procedures and objectives.
  • To abide by the Customer Care Policy.
  • To attend annual relevant mandatory training.
  • To adhere to The Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • To adhere to Fire Action Policy.
  • To be aware of Disciplinary / Grievance Procedure.
  • To be aware of Company policies and guidelines.
  • To read and sign all policies issued to the department in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2000.
