Main Responsibilities and Duties

The Marketing Manager will ensure that Durham SU effectively understands and communicates with Durham University students, inspiring members to join us in the delivery of our strategy and encouraging them to access our student-led services. The Marketing Manager will lead the Marketing team, and work across Durham SU to:

  1. Develop and manage a a high-performing Marketing team that ensure effective day-to-day marketing, communications, campaigns and public relations (PR) activities, which furthers the Durham SU strategy and student priorities.
  2. Create and implement a membership focused marketing and communications strategy.
  3. Champion Durham SU’s brand identity,such that it engages students, reflects our values and articulates our ambitions; ensure effective implementation of our brand delivery.
  4. Provide advice and making recommendations to elected leaders, the Senior Leadership Team, and the Trustee Board on future developments within marketing and communications.
  5. Progress Student Officer campaigns with resources, processes and opportunities, inspire students to participate in campaigns and access services
  6. Further thepositive reputation of the Students’ Union, including effective relationships with media contacts, University colleagues and community stakeholders.
  7. Lead Durham SU’s transition to a digital first approach to communications
  8. Effectively manage Durham SU’s data assests, ensure excellent security in line with legal standards and good practice.
  9. Maximise income generation opportunities available from the student market.

The Marketing Manager will be accountable for

  1. Effective performance of theMarketing team.
  2. Good financial performance of the Marketing team including setting, agreeing and meeting budgets.
  3. Successful delivery of Marketing plans and KPIs.
  4. Professional support for all governance activities in relation to marketing and communications and, in particular, data protection.
  5. Promote Durham SU’s services, and further the marketing and communication needs of colleagues and other departments.

Summary of Terms and Conditions:

Hours of Work - Full-time role - 37.5-hours per week. The post will occasionally require additional commitment over and above normal office hours and this will be recompensed through the TOIL system.

Salary - Grade 6 (£25,983 - £31,918 as of 1st August 2017). Starting salary is £25,983; discretional increments may be awarded annually subject to affordability and good performance.

Place of work - Durham Students’ Union, Dunelm House, Durham.

Benefits - Generous benefits package including: 25-days holiday p.a. plus 8-days bank holiday and 3 days Christmas closure, 3% employer contribution pension scheme.
