About / The site and buildings of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens are owned by the Church Commissioners and managed by The Palace Trust.
The role of Public Events and Exhibitions Manager is to develop an annual programme of public events and exhibitions that will engage with new and wider audiences. The public events programme also contributes significantly to the income of The Bishop’s Palace to help ensure the financial security of The Palace Trust.
Purpose of role /

Responsible for all elements of the development and delivery of a dynamic public events and exhibitionsprogramme at The Bishop’s Palace, to include administration, sponsorship and working within an agreed budget.

Key tasks – What The Palace Trust expects from the Public Events Coordinator / Public Events:
  • To research, develop and realise a range of events and exhibitions that attract a range of audiences
  • To create and work within an agreed annual budget to deliver events
  • To work with the Visitor Operations Manager to plan event staffing rotas for the set-up, running and take down of events, including volunteers wherever possible
  • To carry out risk assessments for all eventsaround the Palace buildings
  • To carry out evaluation and market research throughout the year
  • To provide information to the Marketing and Communications Manager in a timely manner for the promotion and marketing of events and exhibitions
  • To secure sponsorship for the events programme
  • To provide the highest standard of customer care to all visitors to the site whether they are employed to deliver events or are participants
General
  • To act as Duty Manager on a rota basis
  • To respond to all customer comments in a timely manner
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations set out by The Palace Trust in accordance with its statutory regulations
  • Deal with emergencies and first aid incidents, acting as a First Aider and/or Fire Marshall
  • The post holder will be required to undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities which are compatible with the overall scope and authority of the appointment

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Knowledge and Experience / Experience ofdesigning and delivering public eventsand exhibitions in a heritage setting
Experience of working with the general public
Knowledge of health and safety guidelines for a public site / Educated to degree level in an arts or heritage related field
Experience of Duty Management at a visitor attraction/heritage site
Experience of managing events
Skills and abilities / Excellent organisation and administrative skills with a keen eye for detail
Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to exercise initiative, take personal responsibility and resolve issues independently
Ability to develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
Strong ICT skills / Strong sales and negotiation skills
Personal Attributes / Flexibility in relation to duties and working hours that will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Willingness to support all members of the organisation and to be flexible in the tasks that are undertaken
A good level of fitness and wellbeing as you will be outside or in the Palace buildings walking around delivering events.
