POST TITLE: / Safe At Home and Decluttering Co-ordinator
SALARY: / £26,000 p.a. pro-rata + up to 3% pension contribution
HOURS: / 28 hours a week, including occasional evening and weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given
HOLIDAYS: / 25 days p.a. pro-rata
REPORTS TO: / Volunteer & Community Services Manager

Job Purpose

To establish, manage, deliver and develop Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s Safe At Home (Home Safety Assessment) Service, incorporating decluttering and DIY services related to decluttering tasks.

Responsibilities AND MAIN TASKS

1. To manage referrals to the service from external and internal sources, making assessment visits and appropriate introductions between all parties and to report back to referral agencies.

2. To incorporate the existing decluttering and related DIY services into the Safe at Home service, ensuring that the referrals and assessments are co-ordinated to get the best use of staff resources.

3. To liaise with external agencies especially with the Falls Service, Occupational therapists, Social Services, Metropolitan Police, the Fire Service and carers to maximise the impact of the service.

4. To provide and install appropriate equipment and mobility aids when needed following the home assessment and to undertake DIY tasks as required, using volunteers appropriately.

5. To ensure that all practical tasks undertaken are covered by Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s insurance, following Health and Safety regulation and guidelines.

6. To promote the service widely, using a variety of formats to various audiences.

7. To ensure that Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s policies and procedures are implemented, with particular attention to those regarding volunteer management, safeguarding and health and safety.

8. To collect accurate statistics and other information, including user satisfaction and impact evaluation surveys, in line with Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s procedures.

9. To incorporate some elements of saving energy to the assessments.
Managing Volunteers

1. With the support of the Volunteer & Community Services Manager to ensure good practice in relation to volunteer management.

2. To participate in the recruitment of volunteers working in the decluttering service and if required in the Safe at Home Service.

3. To participate in the planning and implementation of Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s rolling programme of volunteer training, ensuring that topics covered are relevant to the work undertaken by the Decluttering and Safe at Home volunteers.

4. To establish and maintain communication with volunteers, providing appropriate support and supervision on a regular basis.

5. To authorise out-of-pocket volunteer expenses.

6. To maintain up-to-date records of volunteers and their involvement.

General

1. To participate with other staff in ensuring the involvement of users in the planning and development of Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s services.

2. To work closely with other members of the team to ensure that relevant information is shared.

3. To produce written reports as required.

4. To participate in the organisation’s events.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

1. Experience of project management including service monitoring and evaluation.

2. Experience of fitting aids and adaptations

3. Experience of undertaking general maintenance and DIY tasks, particularly those related to home safety.

4. Experience of promoting a service in a range of formats to various audiences.

5. Knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations as they apply to this post.

6. Experience of working with diverse communities.

7. Experience of working with and supporting older people, and an understanding of issues affecting them.

8. Ability to be self-servicing with ICT skills including database.

9. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a range of audiences.

12. Flexibility in the working environment and a willingness to participate in the organisation’s events.

13. Experience on managing staff or volunteers.

Desirable
