Research Seminars Competition 2015

The BPS Division of Health Psychology invites submissions for the annual Research Seminars Competition. Two grants are available, each worth up to £1000. The closing date for submissions is 27th March 2015. Details of the Competition are as follows:

Purpose: To enable an one-day research seminar, involving a minimum of 10 people, within a period of about one year. The seminar should have tangible goals explicitly focused upon the extension and development of understanding psychological processes in any area of health psychology.

The Grant: The Chair of the DHP, together with the Past Chair and Chair Elect and representatives from the DHP Research Sub-Committee will select up to two submissions for the Research Seminars Competition which are judged most likely to facilitate a scientific development, for which a grant of up to £1000 will be offered. It is envisaged that most of this money will be distributed by the seminar organisers to meet the travelling and accommodation expenses of those attending the seminars. Institutions should be able to arrange and meet the costs of the rooms for the seminar series.

Application: Applicants should complete the Application Form, which should include the following information:

The proposed scientific content and purpose of the seminar.
Who will be invited to participate (preference will be given to those who include postgraduate students and recent postdoctoral research workers as well as established and distinguished scientists).
How the seminar will achieve its scientific goals and to what tangible outcomes the seminar should lead (e.g. publications, research proposals).
Costings and financial details of how the grant will be spent.
Information on the bank account into which a grant should be paid.

Submissions should be made by a primary applicant (but which may include co-applicants from other institutions), who must be a member of the BPS Division of Health Psychology.

Responsibility for the distribution of grant monies and making practical arrangements for the seminars will be left entirely to the grant holder. However, as part of the condition of the award, you will be expected to confirm the date of the seminar as soon as possible (and usually within 6 months of the date of the preceding seminar). In the event that this confirmation is not received, the DHP Executive Committee reserves the right to withdraw the grant.

Please note that the grant must be claimed (not spent) within 12 months of the date of the award.

Should any extension be required, this must be submitted in writing to the Chair of the DHP.

End of Grant Report: the grant holder must provide the DHP Committee with an end of grant report and financial statement no more than 3 months after the seminar has been held. The preparation and submission of the report is the responsibility of the grant holder. Further applications for funding from the DHP will not normally be accepted from any grant holder who has an outstanding end of grant report outside of the 3 month due date.

The grant holder would also be expected to write an article for Health Psychology Update or the Newsletter, reporting on the seminar (for example, describing its main themes, content and any salient outcomes or conclusions). Submission of the draft article should be no more than 3 months after the seminar has been held.
