A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. MARSHALL P. WATT, JR., OF IVA, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO HELPING OTHERS THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Whereas, Mr. Marshall P. Watt, Jr., of Iva, South Carolina, yields invaluable service to the people of his community through his work with homeowners and young people in a variety of activities involving horticulture, agriculture, and athletics; and

Whereas, Marshall Watt gives of his time and talents teaching home horticulture to fellow residents of Anderson County, providing instruction in landscape design, turf grasses, and weed science. Each year he helps operate the Anderson County Home and Garden Show, and serves as Editor of the quarterly Home Horticulture Newsletter; and

Whereas, Mr. Watt’s ability to assist people in these areas of home care is based on his extensive education in this field. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a Master’s degree in Agriculture Education from Clemson University; and

Whereas, Marshall Watt is involved in a variety of community service organizations and projects related to agriculture and livestock. He is a member of the American Polled Hereford Association, the South Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents, the Alpha Zeta National Honor Agriculture Fraternity, the South Carolina Cattleman’s Association, and the South Carolina Farm Bureau; and

Whereas, Mr. Watt is also committed to helping young people develop their interests in areas of agriculture and athletics through his membership in the Crescent Young Farmers and the Starr Athletic Association. He also serves as a church youth sponsor and a little league sponsor; and

Whereas, Mr. Watt is a faithful member of Starr Baptist Church, Chairman of the Anderson County School District 3 Board of Trustees, and Chief of the Grove Volunteer Fire Department; and

Whereas, Marshall Watt has coordinated the 4H Program in several counties in the Upstate of South Carolina and has for several years directed hunting and boating safety courses for youths and adults; and

Whereas, Marshall Watt’s contributions to the people of his community are vast and varied, and it would be hard to find an individual who uses his remarkable knowledge, skills, and talents to better serve and educate people of all ages and interests. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Marshall P. Watt, Jr., of Iva, South Carolina, for his many years of outstanding service to his community and for his commitment to helping others through a wide range of activities and responsibilities.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Marshall P. Watt, Jr., of Iva, South Carolina.
