An AUKward Proposal: Origins of the North American Clovis Culture

Bruce Bradley [and Dennis Stanford]

The early peopling of the New World has been a topic of intense interest and research since the early twentieth century. We contend that the exclusive focus of research on a Beringian entry point has not been productive. Evidence has accumulated over the past two decades indicating that the earliest origin of people in North America may have been from southwestern Europe during the last glacial maximum. In this summary we outline a theory of a Solutrean origin for Clovis culture and briefly present the archaeological data supporting this assertion. Key in this evidence is the Mid-Atlantic Eastern Seaboard.

PLEASE BRING YOUR PALEO ARTIFACT

COLLECTIONS!

The abstract of Dr. Bradley’s presentation will be our spring chapter meeting with an (N. American Eastern seaboard) Paleo theme.

There will be a large collection of Solutrean artifacts from Dordogne, France that have never been seen here in America.

You can also check out Dr. Bradley’s archaeology web page where you will find fascinating archaeological information, books, and DVDs.
