Applications are invited for the above post based at University Park. The successful candidate will join a team working on the first two stages of a new 6-year NIHR Programme for Applied Research (PGfAR) in which we will develop and refine an intervention to improve pregnant smokers’ adherence to and use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with Dr Felix Naughton who will lead the first two PGfAR work streams and who will be based at the University of East Anglia (UEA). The appointee will lead on the design, implementation and conduct of clearly specified PGfAR component studies, working with other researchers based in Nottingham and UEA. They will also supervise a junior colleague, who will be appointed in Nottingham to assist with this work.

Our group has a team-orientated approach to the delivery of research projects and the appointed candidate will also be encouraged to contribute, as required, to other research studies being run by the group, depending on time available, and their interest, skills and experience.

The post holder must be willing to work flexibly in terms of hours and duties as a team member, and be able to travel within the UK as required for meetings and events.

Candidates must have a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject and a PhD (or if no PhD, extensive experience of successful delivery of applied health research projects). They must have experience of designing, delivering and analysing both quantitative and qualitative research studies, with a clear understanding of key issues involved in working in a health care environment. The successful candidate will need to have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work both on their own initiative and as part of a team. They should also have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. They should preferably have training or experience in tobacco control, health policy or promotion, or in other areas relevant to this post and a knowledge of the ethical and governance issues surrounding clinical research.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 2 years and is full time though 80% whole time equivalence spread over 4 or 5 days would be considered.
